If the NFL were about SUPERIOR athletes that can make GREAT plays, VY would have never lost his job to Collins. Collins is not a SUPERIOR athlete, nor he makes GREAT PLAYS but he does what he is supposed to do.

Anybody playing in the NFL has the capability to make GREAT plays, and most of them do at one point or another, but CONSISTENCY is what makes champions.

Great athletes are necessary for the NFL, they are the ones who sell the tickets, due to our wish to see them succed (so we can identify with them) or our morbid thirst (everybody's favorite) to see them fail, and feel better about ourselves in a sick way or just because they are on the opposite team.

That's why the media loves players like TO and Pacman, who are SUPERIOR athletes and make GREAT plays but their lack of consistency on and off the field becomes a burden to their clubs.

Ian Johnson wont be available in the 4th. And yes, I realize he's projected 5th-6th, but someone will snatch him. He had the 2nd best 40 time and benched the most reps of any RB in the combine.
GMs/Scouts are numbers nerds. They wont sleep on that.

i like the way he really seems to attack the tackler. if he is there late... and we have filled most of our holes i would love to grab him.

i think we are pretty happy with our RB core right now...

on the other hand if we did pick up a shonn greene or ian johnson then lendale could be traded sooner rather than later. just doubt it all though. bet we go RB in the first 3 rds next year after lendale walks away without us getting any compensation for him.

    Um...

Superior athletes are NOT what the NFL is about. Superior athletes that are great players IS! Of course there are positions that don't require great athleticism...like QB...which is why your analogy doesn't work.

You wanna find me an average athlete at DE who's a perennial Pro Bowler? How about at RB? CB? DT? OLB? WR? You get the point. Of course, you'll have to define what your 'average' athelete in the NFL is.

The NFL is about winning, great players (who mostly are great athletes besides QB's), and great plays.

For the next paragraph, we'll leave out QB's, kickers and punters and long snappers. An average athlete CAN make a great play, but is not likely to do so and not likely to do so on a consistent basis. Great athletes who are also great players are much more likely to make great plays AND do it more CONSISTENTLY! Some of these guys also can make the players around them vastly better. An average athlete can not.

The exceptions to this are QB, P, K, LS. QB's need to make good decisions and have enough arm strength and accuracy to get the ball there. Collins makes better decisions and is more accurate right now which allows our offense to be pretty efficient in moving the chains, running the clock, and limiting turnovers. This is why VY is not currently our QB outside of whatever's going on with him mentally.

Is Tom Brady a great athlete? Peyton Manning? I'm pretty sure those two guys sell a TON of tickets, jerseys, ect. No, great athletes are necessary because at most positions ion the NFL, if you have better players who are better athletes, you have a better chance to win...and WINNING is what fans want the most. Sure it's exciting to see your QB throw 5000 yds, a RB run for 2k or whatever...but ask Saints fans if they'd rather see Brees throw for 5000 or win a SB with him throwing 2500?

Lack of consistency? We'll leave Pac out of this cuz it's hard to prove anything consistent about a CB...but you're telling me TO is only popular because he's a great ATHLETE?

In case you were wondering, he AVERAGES over 73 catches, 1086yds, 14.8yds per catch, and over 10 TD's a year for the last 13 YEARS. I think these numbers disprove your theory and support the idea that he's been a dominant player for a long time. He's been consistently excellent....and a headcase...but that's another discussion!

    Well...

A guy like him is a flip on the coin if he goes in the 4th or goes in the 6th. I like his game, intangibles, and potential so I could see him going in the 4th. However, guys who get passed over by their own college teams tend to drop so I'd guess 5th rnd unless someone falls in love with him. I think a lot of people think the mid-tier RB's will drop further due to other positions being stronger in the mid-draft area. Then again, if someone likes HIM, they'll take him.

i said it before and i will say it again: Cedirc Peerman

I watched him at UVA and he was amazing, Al Groh and him got into some spats and he benched him despite being the best player. But the kid has a heart like no other (he broke down crying in an upset loss to Miami, and took the blame on himself).

Plus great results from the combine:
