How? He had two and a half more sacks this year,11 more tackles and missed only two games as oppose to 3 in 07. He had a solid year in 07 but i thought he took his game to another level this year

The stats might look better, but by watching i thought last year was better. he seemed to get a lot more pressure last year and gave his team mates more shots at getting to the QB.

he also had KVB next to him the entire season last year. jacob ford and dave ball filled in well, but who scares you more?

AH and KVB complement each other very well. KVB is a speed rusher who can get pushed to far back field at times to get around the blocks and AH at his best is a bull rusher who collapses the middle. AH makes up for over pressure by forcing the pocket back right to where KVB ends up.

Reread my post. "Lock up and sign". Sanders and Clark both got new deals last season. The Colts are an example of a team that locks up it's core players, and even make some of them the highest paid players in the league, yet they always seem to have there backs against the cap. The Patriots went crazy a couple seasons ago in FA even though most other teams had much more cap space. I'm not saying we need to sign any FA's except for our own. There's no reason we can't sign every single one of our core players to good deals.

The owners want to speed things up and there hasn't even been decent banter to this point??? It's time to start reading between the lines. It's already obvious some teams backload contracts beyond their means (means within a salary cap) after '09.

I'll put it this way, what is there to lose??? Lets pretend we sign all our core players to blockbuster contracts. I mean we make them the highest paid players in the league at their positions. All of them. A new deal gets hammered out, and we are well above the cap. What happens??? We end up cutting the same players we are about to let walk because their "might be" a salary cap beyond '09. Now pretend we sign our core players to savvy deals, and that situation becomes much more livable in that scenario. The fact is right now, 2010 is scheduled to be an uncapped year, and the team needs to treat it as such.

IMO I have no doubt that AH will continue to play at a high level even with a big contract. His motivation was in part financial over the last couple of years but more than anything AH saw that he had a choice to make and he chose to be the best DT in the NFL. He went from being very immature to being a team leader and my guess what will motivate him the rest of his career will be that he wants to go out as one of the best to play the game and he wants a ring. Watching AH coaching from the sidelines told me quite a bit about his attitude and that isn't an issue IMO. AH also demonstrated that kind of leadership in the pre-season helping coach up the young guys.

As far as performance AH is worth keeping even if he only plays 66% of the snaps. His impact is unbelievable. Everyone on the DL benefits when he is in there and offences have to scheme around him. As a dominating DT he is virtually not replacable. We could draft DTs in the first two rounds of the draft for the next decade and not get a guy with the impact he has. Also, I'm not sure AH has even played his best football. He is at a point in his career where he is learning to play with his head as well as his body.

As far as KVB and Bulluck being FAs next year I wouldn't let that hinder in any way re-signing AH. In reality KVB is actually more easily replaced than AH at this point as proven by last years performance by the defense with KVB out or hurt most of the year. I also doubt Bulluck is going anywhere. My guess is they will come together on a short term contract for KVB and Bulluck that doesn't break the bank but allows both of them to remain Titans for the rest of their careers.

    Get it done!

Very good points, several of which I hadn't considered...even though I wouldn't go as far as to say KVB is easily replaced, not many ppl got a motor like that dude

KVB isn't neccesarily going to be easy to replace but he will be a little easier than AH. Also, we have some young guys that played pretty well in KVB's place and after another year guys like Ford might be ready to step up. I think Hayes has a future playing the strong side as well.

I just think a wide receiver would be the most important player we could sign. Our D will be sick with our without Haynesworth, a good receiver would push our offense over the edge
