how does michigan losing their home opener have anything to do with the strength of the big ten? if anything, it shows what state michigan is in right now. michigan wasn't even ranked.

if ohio state had lost to youngstown or penn state lost to coastal carolina, then you'd have a point.

I always thought Michigan was considered one of the more "elite" big10 teams.

I guess that's reserved for Ohio State and..........?

Ok, maybe Penn State. Wisconsin and Iowa are solid.

But the big 10 just isn't what it used to be as far as ncaa football dominance.

michigan is going through a transitional period. new coach, new philosophy, replacing four-year starters at QB, RB and LT.

i mean, they had 7 new starters in saturday's game and 15 making their ncaa debut. they weren't ranked for a reason.

Are some of you guys aware the spread of this game was Michigan -3. This was not a huge upset like some of you guys are making it out to be. Michigan is not good. They lost their qbs, rbs, and receivers from last year. I think it was stupid of them to hire rodriguez because a system like he runs takes a couple years to become successful and I didn't figure Michigan needed to go through a rebuilding stage. No one who knows anything about college football expected them to be good this year.

Apparently you guys overrate Michigan more than I do, and this thread is proof.

    1. Michigan is in rebuild mode. Not sure how you guys were unaware.
    2. Michigan has a new offense that most people knew would take a year or so to work.
    3. Michigan has a new QB. Whomever it may be - neither had taken a single snap before Saturday at the college level.
    4. Utah is a good team.
    5. Michigan has mostly Freshmen on offense.
    6. Michigan lost it's 4 best offensive players to the draft. (Hart, Henne, Manningham, and Arrington)

So I ask you. Why is this news? Why are you all shocked? Why are you expecting me to be upset? Why don't you follow college football more?

Anyway - Michigan's defense was supposed to carry the team for the first 5 weeks. Unfortunately they started 1 half too late. It's not a big deal. Everyone is learning, but the defense will do well enough for the rest of the year to keep them in games. Though as I called it pre-game: The defense had to score in order for them to win.
Sheridan shouldn't have started at QB. Threet almost brought them back, but was high on critical passes (I don't blame the receivers of Michigan for uncatchable balls either :) ), but I can't blame the guy. 1st game...down by 2 with a couple minutes left on 4th and 5 in front of 106 thousand.

I hope you guys stick around for the upcoming season when Rich Rod gets the pieces in place. Til then, you're not upsetting me any. Your team still sucks too. :D

This game wasn't an upset. A quality team of veterans beat a good defense and a freshman filled offense. Nothing surprising.
