So I have voiced my opinion on Fulmer and feel his time may be coming to an end at UT. Some of you agree... some don't. I just want to maybe get some ideas or opinions on who could be his replacement if the job comes open in 2-3 years. Keep in mind Tennessee likes to keep it in the family.... with hiring coaches.

    • Mike Leach - Texas Tech. I love the way his team plays. Amazing offense.
    • Jeff Tedford - Cal. I like the guy and his system would fit in well here. Had a rough time last year.
    • others - Todd Graham- Tulsa. Greg Schiano- Rutgers
Just throwing some names out there.

Off the top of my head, I don't see anyone on the staff who could take over for Fulmer. I don't know of any alumni ready for a BCS job

Depending on how Cutcliffe does at Duke, it's a possibility, but very unlikely.

Cutcliffe is old and has some health issues. I can see his name getting brought up if anything ever happened with Fulmer, but I don't think he would get the job. Dave Clawson would have to get some votes depending on how this offense plays this season. Tennessee loves hiring within the family.

Jeff Fisher would be ideal, same style of ball...

wait, no, Fulmer has a better track record than Fish... and a championship ring. UT fans would've fired Fisher long ago. We don't put up with many .500 or below records in Knoxville regardless of the circumstances.

I don't hear a lot of fire Jeff Fisher noise. Why is that? I'm certainly not advocating canning the Fish. I'm just wondering why Fulmer gets so much heat.

ha Fisher's name has come up on the UT boards whenever this discussion comes up. The play style is pretty similar. They also likes to throw Gruden's name around. I'm not so sure even if things fell apart in Tampa he would want to come back to Knoxville.

Yeah, I've heard Gruden's name several times, especially last offseason. Even if he did land in Knoxville I dont' think he'd last long. Think Kevin O'Neil. That's about how Vols fans would react to one of Chucky's rants :)

Speaking of O'Neil, I'll always miss Jerry Green. When he told the fans they could go to K-Mart I totally cracked.

I'd heard Gruden before a bunch too. Apparently his wife was a Volunteer cheerleader back in the day.

I think a comparison of Fisher to Fulmer is pretty bad. The games and standards are so different at those levels.

Yea Gruden's wife was a cheerleader or something like that. Gruden was a graduate assistant in the 80's. I really don't think he is an option anyway. He was close to Majors and was really angry with the way the university handled his situation.

The standards are definitely different. It's my opinion that your average Vols fan's standards are too high, though. Fulmer puts winners on the field year in and year out with very little exception. We don't need a coaching carousel like they've had down there in 'Bama.

Stability in the head coach draws recruits. They know the stadium will be full, they know they'll be playing in a bowl game and they know they'll be on national tv when they play for Fulmer.
