It does make sense, but there are still clear and evident flaws in your arguement.

Those stats should not be paid much attention to, because the NFL does not run the same type of defense throughout the league. Sanders does one thing. He plays at the LOS and makes tackles. This he does very well. But, he is a one-dimensional safety where as players like Polamalu, Dawkins, and Rhodes are more hybrids, where they can cover and tackle. These guys make a bigger impact than Sanders because they do it in more phases of the game. PLayers like Sanders (and Troy P.) to an extent, need a stud safety behind them so they can roam near the LOS. If Sanders did not have bethea, he couldnt do what he does.

And yea, he is overrated. He should not have won DPOY over Allen or Haynesworth. Heck, Mario WIlliams was more dominant than Sanders last year.

While I did blow it on the Wilson part (even though he doesnt play as close to the LOS as Sanders does...again tackles are an unofficial stats and pointless in this situation)...you would never see Sanders covering a TE. Sorry.

Rhodes is still better and so is WIlson.

I agree with you to an extent. Even though he is a top defensive player it's hard to go against Haynesworth. Allen was on a bad team while Williams wasn't any better than KVB.

He made 34 tackles and started six games as a rookie in 2004.

Sanders started the first 13 games of 2005 and earned a reputation as one of the NFL's top hitters at the position. He made 92 tackles on the year and was chosen to play in the 2006 Pro Bowl at Free Safety position for the AFC Team. He is the first Defensive Back to make the Pro Bowl for the Colts since moving to Indianapolis.

In the 2006 regular season, Sanders played only four games in the regular season due to a knee injury he suffered early. In those four games, he racked up 28 tackles(avg. of 7 per game). He was soon dubbed "The Eraser", due to his ability to erase the mistakes of his teammates in run support and pass defense, which prevented many of the big plays that the opposing teams might have otherwise made happen. The Colts had the worst rushing defense in the NFL statistically, allowing at least 100 yards rushing in every game. During the playoffs, however, Sanders continued his comeback from injury, and breathed new life into the defense. The 2006 Colts in the playoffs, with Sanders, had the second best run defense with only 73.3 rushing yards allowed per game. Sanders went on to help the Colts, on the road, to their victory in Super Bowl XLI. It was against the Bears though. It was still a tought enviroment to play.

For the 2007 NFL season Sanders was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2. This was in part due to the 11 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks he recorded against division rival Tennessee Titans at Tennessee. He was largely responsible for shutting down Vince Young at the end of the game, clinching the victory for the Indianapolis Colts 22-20.(Boo!!!)

On December 28, 2007, Sanders was signed to a 5 year, $37.5 million contract with $20 million guaranteed. The contract makes him the highest paid safety in the history of the NFL.[3](Dang!)

On January 7, 2008, Sanders was named AP Defensive Player of the Year for the 2007 NFL season, the first Colt to earn the award. He earned 31 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL.

So just to recap he makes the defense around him better and actually Bethea benefits from Sanders and not the other way around.

    Forget it. I'm ordering pizza.

^^You wont believe me, but in the Super Bowl year, the Colts run D was actually better when Rob Morris was in the lineup than Sanders. When morris was out was when it faltered. You wont believe me, but it is a statistical fact.

And that tidbit which is clearly from Wikipedia does not say anything about a comparison between Sanders and Bethea. Bethea's solid coverage skills allows Sanders to roam. Sanders' roaming does not make Bethea a better guy in coverage. Sanders lining up at the LOS does not allow Bethea to smother receivers like he can. Bethea is also helpful in run support, even while he lines up far from the LOS every snap. It would be very difficult to prove why or how Bethea benefits from Sanders. Nothing Sanders does really helps out Antoine, because Bob does not get great pressure on the QB often.

    Antonio cromartie..

What cromartie did last year might be a fluke, a once in a lifetime thing but it was something most CBs even the best ones will never touch. Samari rolle had one 7 int season and another 6 int season. Never close to 10. Bailey did it once. What is amazing about cromartie's feat last year is that he only started 8 games.

In 8 games started the final 8 games of the year cromartie intercepted 9 passes and had 13 passes defended. More than one int per game! In the playoffs cromartie had an interception in each of his games against manning and brady.

Counting the playoffs this guy had 11 ints in 11 starts! He intercepted manning and brady. In fact he intercepted manning 4 times in 2 games.

So please tell me how many times i need to bash my head up against the wall to actually believe there were 15 better players at his position than him.

hahahha this is a hilarious post

why you think sanders is that bad in coverage is really just biased and retarded. how many deep plays did the colts allow last year? not many. but of course you wont look at that. you will just hate on one of the best d players in the league

hahha. look at that year sir. morris got inserted into the lineup well before sanders came back and they were bad vs the run. sanders comes in during the playoffs and hey guess what? we have a run defense. go back and look sir. you are wrong. i know you will hate to hear that but it is true.

Again, please look at the video I supplied to get a good solid look at a bunch of his INTs. Hardly any of them were off of good throws. All Cro does is sit in a robber-type zone. He doesnt even play man defense, like most corners do...he is one-dimensional. He hardly ever needed to jump a route or do anything more than just stand and wait for the ball to come to him. You can go ask any football fan who has some knowledge of all 32 teams, and I can garuntee any of them have Cro in their top 10. He struggles in man coverage and will be exposed next year.

Sure that's why in 05 with doss at the other safety and bethea playing college ball at howard sanders had an even better year and also was a 1st team all pro.

    Keep trying....

While Mike Doss was not on Bethea's level, he was not a scrub. Both of those players allowed Sanders to be free and roam. Thats my point. Just like how Hope let Polamalu do that, too. Sanders would not be able to do that unless he had a player who was very solid in coverage at the other safety position.

Im done with you, now...I get why everyone avoids even questioning a word you say. You just flip out and bring meaningless stats and ignorant thoughts to the table...
