The hall of fame is meaningless! Making the HOF is meaningless. I could argue that a HOF player actually sucks.

Why? Because they are also picked by the media. If the media are not qualified to know what a damn pro bowl player looks like how in the hell can they determine who gets into the hall? I can put my hands on my hips and proclaim it is all just a popularity contest.

Any idiot can say anything about a player then. Tomlinson made just because he is a media darling. Brady isn't as complete a QB as 15 other guy because he is not a good runner.

Want to bring this discussion into the land of stupidity by all means do it. Cromartie, 10 ints and 18 PD. 15 guys were better last year! Quenten jammer a guy they once tried to turn into a safety is better!

I proclaim that lowry is the best safety in the league!

I agree with RT. I do think the football HOF is the toughest to get into though.

Oh....big man with the name calling. Do you really think that Ed Reed and Bob Sanders had better years and Kerry Rhodes and Adrian Wilson? Last season for Reed was not one of his best.

Rhodes plays in a different style of defense than Bob, one in which he is asked to cover more. Rhodes proved that his coverage was far superior to Bobs, and was also vital in the Jets' run support. He even had more stuffs behind the LOS that Bob had.

You cant do anything to prove that Bob was good in coverage because all you do is post INT stats. Heck, you've probably never even heard of Kerry Rhodes before this thread.

Antonio Cromartie did not deserve an all-pro selection. Most of his INTs were on very poor throws.

The proof is in the film. Cromartie was rarely asked to play man defense and basically sat in a robber-type zone. Clearly, he made his fame off of catching poorly thrown balls. While he did have 1 or 2 legit picks, thats not a good enough amount to be named all-pro.

Again, all you use is stats to prove that you dont actually watch the games. Jammer actually did more than sit in a zone last season, and forced opposing QBs to actually target Cromartie rather than himself. He played man defense against a #1 receiver and was more effective in stopping the pass on his side of the field than Cromartie. Again, I dont expect you to know this, but whatever.

And yes, it is quite easy to name 15 CBs better than Cromartie. Asomugha, Newman, Bailey, Samuel, Jammer, Brown, Taylor, Tillman, Harris, Woodson, Trufant, Clements, Finnegan, Mathis, D. Robinson...heck I could even add Hayden, Springs, Greer, Vasher, Winfield....yea, you probably couldnt put first names to these guys, but all are superior to Cromartie in overall corner play.

too bad those highlights show Cromartie from last year, which would actually be the 3rd time RT saw gameplay from his 2007 season (assuming he caught the 2 Titan games)

All of his INTs off of poorly thrown balls are in there...only 1 or 2 of them are legit.

You say that stats mean nothing and you have to watch the game. Correct? Your kind of molding them together. Everything you say can be switched to benefit someone else. Like your post about the poorly thrown balls. If a QB never threw a poorly thrown ball then how would a DB get an interception? Of course it takes talent but your on that thin line of assuming everything benefits the players you think are better.

OK, because you have finally come out with a somewhat coherent post, Ill explain as thoroughly as possible.

I said that stats like INTs and PDs are a poor way of judging a CB. Stats like: amount of TDs given up, completion % of passes allowed in regards to times targeted, and LEGIT INTs are much more useful. Unfortunately, those stats are only in Joyner's book (I think), which I dont have (though I do know some people who do). RT was saying how Cro's 10 INTs instantly made him superiour to most other CBs. The fact is, though, a defensive lineman could have made most of Cro's 10 INTs, because most of the balls were thrown right to him because of the QB throwing a poorly thrown ball.

RT also used tackles to compare Sanders to other safeties. Of course Sanders is going to have more tackles, he plays at the freakin LOS the entire game. He thinks that that alone makes him the best, when there are other safeties in the game (Rhodes, Dawkins, Wilson), who are just as effective as Sanders in run support (Hence Rhodes having twice as many "stuffs" behind the LOS) and are also far superior to him in coverage. Again, though RT brought up Sanders' 2 INTs and compared them to Wilson's low INT stat. Sanders only have 1 legit INT, whereas I think Rhodes had 4 or 5. Sanders is also targeted a lot in his secondary, just as much, if not more, than the other 3 DBs, and if he was so good, he would have more INTs than Wilson, who does not get thrown to as often as Sanders does.

The main 3 stats I look at to rank a Safety is tackles, ints, and p def. From those 3 Sanders is probaly the best tackler, big-hitter, etc. I do rank a S at how efficient that player is on the team and the impact of that player. He is very efficient at the role he plays( up on the line and making sure not to let the player with the ball escape) and also makes a huge impact( best on the defensive side, awards, etc.). I believe that the argument is not wheter he's a top 2 Safety but if he's overrated. The answer is that he's not overrated.

Think of this from the presprective of a QB. Let's compare a normal(pocket passer) like Ben Roethlisburger to a scrambling QB like McNabb. Each of those players are unique in their own strengths. McNabb can pass on the run while Ben has a good arm in the pocket. So is it fair to compare those 2 players? Even though Ben has a ring McNabb has been to the SB and many post-season appearances. The normal S is like Ben but in some cases a S with the skills like Sanders is a scrambling QB.

I know this may not make 100% sense but I'm in a hurry because I have to go and get groceries.

    LOL!

Duh adrian wilson missed 7 games with injury and didn't even have half the tackles sanders did. :sad2: I knew you would blow it..

    http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef.php

According to football outsiders methodology the colts defense was 2nd most effective agaist TEs last year. the titans were first. I'm sure those stats had nothing to do with the strong safety right?

Your comment about a lineman getting 10 ints has to be the quote of the year.
