I'd bet Eli considered retirement after every year but this one.

The QB is traditinoally the leadership position.

It is difficult to inspire leadership among your peers if you are contemplating quitting on them. Vince signed a multi-million dollar a year contract and is expected to perform. Vince came out his junior year- MAYBE that was HIS mistake.

I don't like any part of this story. It provides fodder for the media and then subsequently his team mates then the fans to doubt him throughout the year- especially if we don't win or he doesn't perform well.

Vince has talent. He is just immature. He needs to grow up.

And some of blindly spouting the Vince support rhetoric should as well.

Riverman it actually really doesn't matter what the fans or media think of vince as a leader. All that matters is that his teammates trust him and from every indication they do. The only questions of his leadership have come from fans and not the team. All the fans and media doubted eli's leadership skills but apparently his teammates didn't. And saying we need to grow up because we support vince is ridiculous. You are the one making assumptions without knowing any facts. From everything that the players tell the media vince seems to be a great leader in their eyes. You just assumed they're lying for some reason and they really don't respect him.

    1. I meant those spouting blind rhetoric need to grow up- not just those that support Vince. I've supported Vince since BEFORE we drafted him.

    2. Pro-bowl veteran leader Mawae went on record last year indicating Vince had some growing up to do. I can pull the reference if you don't remember or need it. I'm not one to assume.

    3. Like it or not- he does need to mature in both his on and off the field performance in order for him to achieve his potential and take the Titans back to the Super Bowl. That is just part of being a PROFESSIONAL rather than a student- which at times he appears more interested in being.

I think his teammates know and understand Vince a lot better than us but I see a kid who wears his emotions on his sleeve and is prone to not think things through before speaking. Yes, both are signs of immaturity but it will get better in time. He'll learn.

I'm much more surprised he wasn't ready to quit after last season instead of just after winning ROY and appearing in a Pro Bowl. He dealt with a rough season pretty well (along with this photo thing) which I hope indicates he's already maturing.

I agree that vince needs to grow as a qb and I believe he will. Remember the guys only played 2 seasons he's not exactly a savvy vet. This has nothing to do with his teammates trusting him and believing he's a leader. In that story mawae also talked about how he believes vince will improve this year because the game will slow down for him. There are very few 2nd year qbs who are making a ton of in-game adjustments. But again I do agree that vince needs to mature into a better qb, but that's just something that happens with all young qbs (Eli took 4 years). I was mainly arguing his inability to lead because of this story.

only two people I pretty much harped on from the day we drafted them was Jones and Young. I pegged Jones from the start and held my ground on him and was proven right. Jury is still out on Young

You probably didn't show up here until Young was drafted by the Titans

Am I the only person that thinks this entire story is some writer blowing a comment way out of proportion? I feel like Vince said, "I felt like quitting sometimes" and the somehow the reporter got retirement out of it. Honestly, wanting to quit at times is normal. Its a lot pressure from everyone. But its not like he called up the NFL office and told them to send his retirement papers to him. He's just saying it was hard and thought of quitting crossed his mind. I don't think he was ever serious about actually retiring.

That sounds more like Vince. Stupid jackass no-talent reporters that don't know how to take a LEGITIMATE interesting angle.

Hopefully Vince is learning to guard his words he gives to the media.
