"Elite toughness and signs of accuracy”

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Tannehill by Vrabel at his end year press conference

    Indeed.

The biggest issue with Tanny is that it seems he has developed extreme tunnel vision. He doesn't seem to see anything that's going on around his intended target, because I have no idea why he makes those three throws that he made on Saturday if he had seen anything happening around those receivers.

    Again with the word Elite!

Accuracy is better than "signs" of it? No?

The first INT, Julio was open, but Tannehill stared him down and was extremely late in getting Julio the football. The pocket was clean so that play was inexcusable on Tannehill's part. The second INT was poor play selection and Tannehill not reading what the Bengals DB was doing. The third INT was another example of him staring down a receiver, in this case NWI. The ball placement on the throw was poor as well.

These things weren't confined to just the postseason. Tannehill had a lot of throws sail on him, put behind the receiver, or throws that were simply late. Some of that had to do with the injuries and protection issues, but some of that is also on Tannehill.

Tannehill will in all likelihood be back next season. If he has another season like this one, I think next year is the end for him. The Titans window is closing rapidly, especially now the Titans have to see if Henry returns to form.

    Davenport destroys Tannehill here.

"Can the Titans win a Super Bowl with quarterback Ryan Tannehill?

The Titans' AFC divisional game against the Bengals was an example of why it doesn't seem likely."

I think there was an unwillingness to stick with the run in general.
I also kind of disagree that n some of the takes about Henry’s health. It’s been mentioned and was known ahead of time the Bengals D was going to focus on him BUT in the 3rd qtr there was a stretch it appeared Henry was warming up and they stopped running him, partly for foreman.
    1st qtr - 5 carries 11 yards
    2nd - 5 carries 19 yards (6 counting failed 2pt)
    3rd - 7 carries 31 yards
    4th - 3 carries 1 yard. (Final drive 2 for 3)

foreman had 1 carry in the 1st, 2 yds
    1 carry in the 3rd, 45 yds
    2 carries in the 4th, 9 and 1 yard.

Aside from the obvious WR screen, in the 2nd the drive after the TD, titans went with 3 straight passes (THill scrambled on 1) and again in the 4th, after 2 carries for 10 yds, 3 straight passes again leading to the “and 1” stop.

just inconsistent run play calls when it was working.

It really seemed like that the gameplan was initially going to be aggressive, get a lead, and then pound the run. However, I think that first pass INT just completely spooked the coaching staff and they could not figure out what they wanted to do afterwards, especially in the second half where the playcalling went kind of schizophrenic as you referred to.

I wonder how many on this board wrote Stafford off as a QB who couldn’t win the Superbowl. Before playing for LA his TD:INT ratio was 1.96. Tannehills is 1.95.

Tannehill isn’t great. He’s not Brady, Rodgers or Mahomes. But he isn’t veing out in a position to succeed. Our O is formation and personnel tendency heavy (it was actually also a problem under Smith) and it’s too easy for defenders to predict the play.

Bring in an OC who doesn’t telegraph the play by the personnel and formation and I will guarantee Tannehill looks a lot better.

Comparing the talent Stafford has in Detroit to what he has here is laughable.

Stafford is a much better QB than Tannehill and that’s not a knock on Tannehill. Stafford is easily the most underrated QB of the last decade.
