We could restructure Crowders deal and have Jets pick up some of it I would think, happens all the time
If Brown and Evans ball out, I hope their next deal is with us

That is more than I would want to pay him.

Pretty simple really. You spend that $10 mil to keep Brown and slide Rice into the inside spot. That is why they made sure they got Rice when they did because they obviously really like him and could have had Cox if they wanted more of a weak side LB.

Rice doesn't have to be a world beater to replace Evans but Brown is the guy you don't want to lose. They can say they will work on a long term deal for Evans but only if he comes real cheap will that happen. They have to make tough choices and Evans is much easier to replace than Brown who is a pro-bowl level player to use in value.

Not surprised. It buys the Titans time to further evaluate Evans. With that 5th-year option now guaranteed, I expect more teams will go this route.

I look forward to seeing Evans play to his potential or moving on.

I just read in the roto piece that Evans was the best LB in the NFL for tackles last season...that can't be right.

I do remember Evans making a couple epic goal line stands for us last year. He's not the fastest but he can hit. I would like to keep jayon and brown together if the price was right. If it ain't broke don't fix it (if you can pay for it).

I don't think we should read into the part about the team hoping to extend him too much. That came from his agent, Rosenhaus. Betting that was PR spin from him to make it sound like they were working on something, when really the team was just saying they were going to evaluate him this year and might consider another deal after that.

On another note, I saw PK whining about how that's 4 out of 5 1st round players that the team has declined their 5th year option. I guess he was trying to make a point about how the team needs to do a better job keeping their own drafted players, but it just came off as the usual PK griping.

The fact of the matter is that all of those 1st rounders have proven useful during their contracts, but none other than Conklin were really worth a big second contract. It also ignores the fact that JRob has hit on several other mid round picks that have turned into not just starters, but top tier talent: Byard, Jayon Brown, Henry, Davis, and AJ Brown.

I got an idea....lets not resign another one of our best players and draft another guy that has terrible character issues to replace him!!!

That's not that bad. I'd pay him around $7. Less than $10m for a 5th year option, I can live with though. Gives you more flexibility since you can still sign him for to a longer deal before the 5th year starts.

He clearly regressed last year but so did the entire defense. His bonehead penalties were worse than his play. He still has upside. In 2019 he showed flashes of a top 10 player.

I can see this going both ways. Not picking up the option is probably the more logical choice but I can see this being another Jack Conklin situation. Oh well.
