Maybe he feels they are either slightly above average, average or terrible, there are no great ones? Belichek maybe?
JRob is not great, he's made mistakes just like he's done some head scratchers...that imo makes him slightly above average

Or let's just say he's good not great and leave it at that

I actually don’t pay enough attention to other teams’ front offices to name 12-15 GMs good or bad. Clearly, no one bats .1000 at this gig. JR has made some really good moves and some really bad moves. I am not even sure how you would slot GMs by grade. Win/loss? Is it that simple, or is there more to it? I think he didn’t do as well with the “kings ransom” as I would have wished. But getting Tannehill was a strong move. Ignored kicker too long, but the 2019 draft was a marvel. Which decision are you going to migrate to? It’s a defensible argument either way - excellent or slightly above average?

No great ones? So if you’re number one in the world at your job you aren’t great? Too 5 in the world and you aren’t great? Whoever is number 1-5 on your list they are great... if you don’t think there are any great GM’s in the league maybe it’s time to adjust your expectations.

Forgive me for having an opinion...and that it doesn't match the JRob knob swingers...he's a good GM, he's not great...thats my opinion

So tell me who the great ones are and why?

If you’re opinion is you can at the top of your craft and not be great then I just think you need to re examine your expectations.

I mean if you were the top person at your job and your boss said you weren’t great your argument would be to ask who is better, no?

Sure I’ll show everyone how to actually back up a statement like this.

I think the current great GM’s in the NFL are, in no particular order:

    Brandon Beane
    Mickey Loomis
    Kevin Colbert
    John Schneider
    Jason Licht
    Les Snead
    Brett Veach
    Jon Robinson

Everyone on this list has bad draft picks. Bad FA signings, or extensions but the overall body work has been excellent to date.

Could make an argument for a few others. (John Lynch comes to mind but there are some reports that he reports to the HC on all decisions so not sure about that). Chris Ballard I think could be on the list soon. are some newer GM’s who might prove to be great but not enough time has passed to truly judge their work. (Andrew Berry, Eric DeCosta).

Dont think Belicheck makes the list anymore. When’s the last time he drafted a difference maker? But maybe after this offseason he proves us all wrong.

Just one comment on Belicheck - perhaps even a question... Is won/loss a better gauge of success than “difference makers” drafted? I am asking for any and all opinions on this. What is the greatest metric to judge a GM?

    Nice input to your argument

tbh I don't know them all that well but I know to be labeled great, I need more...high expectations? Absolutely...comes with labeled great
