yes a CAP would work but before a CAP could be imposed REVENUE sharing would have to happen... and it aint gonna happen

there are 3 levels of MLB... the handful of large payroll teams ( yankees, dodgers Braves Cubs ect). The 10ish small market teams ( KC baltimore Tompa Bay Miami ect) that can only compete by loading their minors and then making a run while most everyone is still on first MLB contract. ( 7 year vets eligible for UFA )

then there are the handful of teams stuck in the middle... can afford some FAs but cant really compete with big payrolls either ( Indians White Sox Twins ). They can retain their core guys and be competitive but cant sign the Arods of MLB though

While I agree drugs overall have played a role, I tend to believe equipment, stadium alterations, and rule changes have done more to change the record books.

The drugs have had more of an indirect change from what I see as people have generally used them to become stronger/recover from injuries faster, maybe that plays more into the career lengths too.

I think there could be some agreement in the revenue sharing but you're right, no way the Yanks and Dodgers willingly give up a lot of moolah. The minor league system also changes the overall revenue spending from what we see in the NFL.

Maybe a certain smaller percentage goes to revenue sharing vice an overall number but a better idea than revenue sharing would be a mandatory minimum spending amount.
I root for the Pirates (not so much over the past few years because of the money disparity) and they are known to have a cheap skate Owner. MLB makes money. Every team makes money. Maybe not Yankee money, but a lot. I'm sure a mandatory roster spending of like $60 mil could be met by all 30 clubs.

And for the "cap" idea, I'd like to see a cutoff at maybe around $175 mil (based on current league numbers) to prevent the BS that MLB teams do where they buy players not out of necessity, but to prevent another team from acquiring him. This could also give a fighting chance for some small market teams to land an actual FA worth anything.

MLB effectively has a super soft CAP right now.

MLB has a luxury tax described in detail here

Major League Baseball luxury tax - Wikipedia

today there is a line drawn, $210m in 2021, and a staggered luxury tax is paid depending how many times a team has went over the line.

about 40% of the luxury tax is returned evenly to all clubs that did not cross the line

NBA has something similar and it's all but worthless. I think Miami Heat just said F it until the 3rd straight season over the "cap" but they got 2 championship spots (1 win I think) within those years.

$210 mil is too high of a number to use too. There's only like 3-4 teams that will ever reach that number so the rule hardly applies and definitely does nothing for league parity at all.

just wait till Nashville gets a baseball team. I assume that will be a small market heh they’ll be the next Pirates I’m sure. But be cool to have a team in that region.
