Look at 5th pick history - Jalen Ramsey, Brandon Scherff, Khalil Mack, Ziggy Ansah, Justin Blackmon (bust), Patrick Peterson, Eric Berry, Mark Sanchez (best), Glenn Dorsey (bust), Levi Brown (bust), AJ Hawk (bust), Carnell Williams (bust)

So out of the last 15 years, you've gotten 2 or 3 guys that are something their team was able to build around and 2 more guys that a team has gotten value in trading. And Ziggy Ansah put up good production for a couple of years.

I see a trade as different than a release. Despite possibly underperforming, they still got more value in return based off that performance.
if we trade Davis, it lessens his bust value in my eyes.
If he is just released, it means he really wasn’t worthy of the #5 pick (even a trade doesn’t automatically make him worth that).

he’s a decent player and seems like a great team guy but you take picks at #5 overall to be game changers. Davis is far from wearing that title.

Are you implying most 5th picks have been busts? And you consider AJ Hawk a bust??? For real?

I like Corey. Hope we sign him long term to a fair WR2 deal. I'm curious to see what Will Fuller gets signed for. If Davis wasn't picked in the first round, this wouldn't be a conversation. But he was, and hasn't lived up to the draft slot unfortunately.

Per Davenport, most 5th picks in the draft have been worth the 5th year options.

I like Corey aswell. Looks solid in run blocking and he has had me jumping out my seat for those **** yea TD moments ie Pat's in the playoffs which we lost and that OT catch with the eagles. However not alot of 1st rd recievers live upto the hype. Team friendly deal we got a solid wr2. Just depends how much he wants to stay and how much he wants to earn.

I don't necessarily think any of them are busts. But if Corey Davis, a quality starter from year 1, is a bust, then 50-80% of 1st rounders and even 5th picks are probably busts and your expectations are out of line.

If CD is productive and healthy this year, he should be worth around half of what the 5th year option would have paid him.

You’re correct in the term bust being subjective.
Bust is in reference to the terms of boom or bust, if you’re not boom, you’re bust.
there is no, eh, he was ok, he’s good, he’s decent. He hasn’t reached the expectations of what a #5 overall pick should have.

again, I like the guy and hope he can stay. I even suggested the titans should pick up the 5th year option, but really he just falls in history as a bust, just not nearly to the extreme as a Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf. Titans specifically have much worse selections that are bigger busts.

Blackmon wasnt a bust. He was showing out in Jax before all his childish behavior.

I agree but WR is a different position group than anything else. In order for a WR to be successful they have to have consistent QB play. We definitely didn’t have that over his tenure here.

That being said it was the right move to decline the option.
