Look at what an average contract for a starting QB in the NFL is versus rookie contract. We’re talking 20+ million per year. That’s a huge chunk of cap and he’d be an idiot not to want more than that. We just need to know he’s the guy.

I understand that but it doesnt have to be a long term deal.

Most everything I've read has been pretty accurate. Giving credit for the Titans defense playing very well and the offense being balanced and effective. I've seen several articles opine that perhaps they had been hyping the wrong afc playoff hopeful.

Fact is, the browns did play like crap. 180 penalty yards, a safety, three picks (should have been five). Do we best them without all that? I don't know. But we played better and we won. That's it.

    Bingo.

Marcus played well. Given that he was under pressure virtually every snap, very well. He stood in there and largely made the plays. And he did not fumble, throw picks, or take dumb hits or sacks.

If he plays 15 more of similar caliber, sure, let's talk contract.

I guess it’s possible for it to be a short contract, but is it plausible? As nice and personable Mariota is, he will want money. FO’s want value. This is generally what leads to lengthy contracts. I don’t think he’d be any different than any other player in that position.

Short contracts with guaranteed money are in vogue

But that’s what I’m saying what other team is going to be bidding. Marcus and his agent can ask for whatever they want but they won’t have much leverage if there aren’t other teams interested.

    Gil Brandt...

America's Teams...outside of Dallas of course

    1) Cleveland Browns

The Browns are poised to become football's Horatio Alger, living out a gridiron rags-to-riches story. Two years ago, no team was as destitute as Cleveland, which became just the second team in NFL history to finish a season 0-16. Fittingly, the leader of the Browns' renaissance is Baker Mayfield, a former walk-on who rose to become a Heisman Trophy-winner at Oklahoma. Mayfield will be joined this season by another bigger-than-life superstar, trade acquisition Odell Beckham Jr., who ranked second only to Tom Bradyin jersey and merchandise sales between March 1 and May 31, according to the NFL Players Association.

There is something American about the passion the Browns fans in the Dawg Pound display despite having endured an extremely dire existence since the franchise's return in 1999. I know it's only anecdotal, but I can say that, after years of receiving hardly any calls about the Browns while hosting my radio show on SiriusXM Radio, I now receive almost as many such calls as a I do about the Cowboys. General manager John Dorsey has a done a great job assembling the most talented Browns roster in two decades. Now we need to see what first-year head coach Freddie Kitchens can do with it.

    The rest....

If nobody else is interested, then he played poorly or had another injury.

I’m trying to see it. You seem to be saying that Mariota will have a good season but nobody will want him, therefore his price tag will be low. Maybe that will happen somehow, idk.

If he plays well enough that the Titans want to resign him, there will be many other teams willing to pay him. That said just tag him. I'm sorry but if he does have a solid year, I want him to show me 1 more before giving him 100M+.
