That is certainly not the whole story. His receivers were terrible last year. Only one could catch anything. He over fifty drops from receivers last year—one of the worst in the nation. If they catch half of those his season is much better. Compare his first half to his second half last year. Because of drops he just forced things to the receiver who could catch. He also didn’t start three full seasons. And he has had three head coaches and thus three different offensive systems. This will be the first year with the same offense back to back years. Much of this explains the struggle you have noted. The raw talent is there. And to say no drop off from him to Shough is ridiculous. Just read an article yesterday where many players were saying he was the best player in camp. And doesn’t show up in big games? Arguably two of the biggest games last year were Washington and Stanford...he played lights outs. I would say the team didn’t show up on the road...that is a coaching issue not a Herbert issue.

I you still have the same assessment after this year, I will be surprised.

Couldnt the same be said for Tanne though? He has far more experience playing against the Pat's than anyone else on the team.

Mariota fans really clinging to that all-time QBR list.

The list where Mariota is right above Colin Kaepernick, Matt Schaub, and Andy Dalton... and below Chad Pennington.

    lol

Can except he’s playing in the Titans offense his first year. I think the LB’s in particular can key off his eyes/mannerisms, tendencies etc. But your point is every bit as valid as the one I’m making.

I’m just not freaking out over a “bad practice” the same way I didn’t freak out that he did better than Mariota pre-season game 1.

The Huskies and Stanford game was good and won because of the legs of CJ Verdell and Dye.

Oregon lost to Stanford. Sure, the running game was good. But Herbert was great in those games—things went south when the teams figured out only one wr could catch the ball and they could load the box against the run. You may be right. He might really be bad. But I am guessing you are wrong and will see it this year. Time will tell.

Well, Herbert was not good tonight vs auburn. He certainly doesn't look like a top 10 college QB. He is trash

Yeah, having lived in Portland, OR for 4 years back in 02-04, I've had a chance to follow this team ever since and Herbert looks pretty bad. Dont see the hype around this kid.

Again, not whole story. He was missing what might be three best receivers. He was playing against one of the better defenses in the country. He had an easy td dropped. And he still completed 70% of his passes. Talk to me at the end of the year.

The touchdown pass he did throw to Spencer Webb in the first quarter was terrific as he rolled to his left, had both feet planted, and unleashed a bullet back across the field while being hit. It was the kind of throw most coaches will lose years of their lives on watching from the sideline, but it was also a throw that very few QBs can make, and Herbert's one of them. I just dont buy into the hype just yet. Hes made alot of others mistakes last year that were costly.
