Blood Meridian isn't even that old of a novel but is easily in the top 10 American novels ever written easily.

A Blood Meridian film has been in development hell forever. It's would be pretty controversial and extremely violent if done faithfully to the novel.

It's depictions of American Imperialism in the west, genocidal violence by Americans and some dark commentary on I think American Protestantism though the themes are gnostic. Really Cormac's end vision of where it eventually leads. Ritual violence and eventual rejection of the benevolent vision of the Christian god in the west replaced by one made of ritual violence and disdain for human life. It would probably be pretty controversial in our modern political and social climate.

    A gruesome read.

I've thought a lot about a screen adaptation. You need someone with a real vision, and you need to find someone that will do justice to The Judge. I think visually speaking, innaritu is the right choice for director. The look and tone of The Revenant really screamed Blood Meridian to me. But I think most people are scared to do it because the material is so heavy and dense and beloved.

James Franco did a screen test for it that wasn't very good.

edit: P.T. Anderson would do a great job too i think

His novels have translated pretty well on screen, well I haven't read the books, but they've been gruesome enough. Any director worth their salt should know what they are getting into.

Edit- Honestly, I think now is probably the best time to do it. To be frank, and not even sugar coat it.....conservatives aren't spending money on entertainment these days.

The Road is one of the most faithful book to film translations ever. It's almost scene for scene. Well done.

All the Pretty Horses was average, No Country for Old Men is obviously a masterpiece.

Child of God was not good. I didn't care for the book though to be honest.

The Sunset Limited wasn't a novel but a play and HBO filmed it with Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L Jackson and it's a masterpiece in my opinion.

All the Pretty Horses should be put to film again. Really that Border Trilogy would all translate to film well.

Cormac is my favorite writer by a long shot. It's not even close.

Blood Meridian is so fantastic. I still read The Road every year or so. Reading The Road again after having a child is an even larger gut punch. Just beautiful.

I'm trying to read 25 books a year, and plan on reading atleast another or two, of McCormac's.

I finished A Subtle Art of Not Giving a ****.

I don't know how I feel about it. On one hand I think 'thats a lot of good advice and a general good ethos' and on the other I feel like the only reason its popular is because it says '****' on the cover. IMO, its the Ayn Rand of self help books. Bringing nothing new to the table and only really heard of because its edgy.
