Well Henry wasn't very reliable for most of the season so I think Lewis' struggles were heavily rooted from poor interior offensive line play.

But how Arthur smith uses Lewis isn't my concern. Its who he thinks is the cornerstone of the offense.

Trying to understand. Henry wasn't reliable, but Lewis was affected by poor offensive line play? So, if the line had played well last season, Lewis would have done really well and Henry would have still struggled?

I don't think Gut necessarily defends Matiota , as much as holding the rest of the offense accountable. It's fair. But that's just the nature of the position. It is the most impactful position in all of sports, considering how much one player can make a difference in a sport which has 22 starters. The difference between an elite QB and an average one can make be the difference of several wins. You can get 2 or 3 elite players at other positions, and they still probably won't make as big of a difference as an elite QB would.

We are harder because Mariota is now the highest paid player on the team. And arguably one of the worst at his position relative to the rest of the league. It's definitely fair to hold him to a different standard.

It really isn't a good argument because it was the exact same line when Henry all of a sudden exploded.
Henry changed how he was running and instantly became a beast. Apparently the o-line was doing fine before the change.

You don't see Gut giving 1000s of excuses for any other player on the team.

Mariota Gives us the Best Chance to Win THIS season.
Tannehill is the perfect backup when needed (He has similar skill set to Mariota).

Henry is our man. Ofcourse we're a run 1st team. Oline is built that way, Marcus is a mobile qb and we have a power back and Dion who can fit in all sorts of places (gaps and passing lanes).

Henry needs to step up for every game this season. Rbs dont get 100+ yards running every game but hes gotta be impactful. Davis, Humpries and Sharpe are the reliable receivers for our play action and Delanie just needs to ball again and we get the answer whether we extend Marcus. Only issue in my eyes is depth on the oline.
