Mariota's Ceiling Heading Into the Season

If he blows up 2019, franchise tag. If he blows up again in 2020 long term deal.

So you think Rosen's year last year was as good as Mariota? LOL!!!

It's hysterical when you talk about how great Rosen was and claim he was surrounded by garbage...isn't that as EXCUSE??? But for Mariota, there's no excuses!!!

I'd disagree he was surrounded by garbage. Fitzgerald is a Hall of Fame wr who's on the downside and David Johnson is a very good multi-purpose back. I can't comment on their OL because I don't watch them play, do you?

But be that as it may...let's look at your Rosen MATCHED Mariota claim...because I don't think it's close.

Rosen threw for 2278 yards...Mariota threw for 2528...an extra 250 yards (or about a game's MORE production)! AND Rosen had 23 MORE attempts (almost another game's worth of throws)!

That's because Rosen had a paltry 55% completion % compared to Mariota's robust 69%!!!

It's also because Rosen had a TERRIBLE 5.8 YPA while Mariota's is very solid at 7.6..almost 2 yards HIGHER!!!

Furthermore, Rosen had 11 TD's and 14 INT's on more attempts than Mariota's 11 TD's and 8 INT's. Mariota also had 2 rushing TD's and 2 lost fumbles to bring his totals to 13 TD's vs 10 turnovers. I don't these are close considering one has a positive ratio and the other a very negative ratio. Mariota also adds another 350yds rushing compared to Rosen's 140 yards. That's another 210 yard advantage to Mariota (or two games of rushing yards).

So let's take a look at more comprehensive stats. Rosen had a QB rating of 66.7. To put that into context, you hope your backup qb is in the 80's!!! Mariota had a qb rating of 92.3! Comparable? NO!

But let's take a better measure which includes game play situations so we make sure we aren't giving Mariota the benefit of padding stats in blowouts. Mariota had a QBR of 55.6 last year. Rosen had a QBR of 25.9!!!

50 is considered avg.

Still think Rosen MATCHED Mariota's play last year? I don't think it's close. Now do I think Rosen sucks? Not at all. I think he did his best in a difficult situation. But he didn't play at even a backup level last year and Mariota played at a starter level (not the level of starter we want...but you get the idea).

 

Mariota obviously played better in many ways. But the low TD production is concerning. You can see that 11 TDs is a number associated with bad QBs, like Rosen.

 

Gut, how long you been a fluffer for Mariota? Lol. Listen, if you want to call me a “hater” and write responses the length of a dear Abby, that’s fine.....i’ll In turn call you a Mary nut swinger. I find your defense of him just as funny as you find my posts. It’s okay, we can agree to disagree, and despite what you think, I do see both sides and want him to do well. I just don’t have rose colored glasses on, and I don’t settle for average which is exactly what he has been. Plain and simple. Take away our defense being tops at points allowed and points averaged, and we aren’t a winning team. Josh Rosen threw 11 TD’s. Same as your golden boy. I find it kind of funny to be honest....

 

JR and I used to get in these arguments all the time last year. So I know for a fact he’s not a Mariota hater, he’s just a realist.
