Who are the Miss State alums here again?

They must be real proud. Three guys taken in the first round and at least one more will go today.

This is silly! You think every first round pick is gonna make a major impact as a rookie? DJones might sit behind Eli. Haskins will compete for a job but no guarantee he plays Year one. And that’s just an example.

2nd you automatically assume he won’t contribute at all? Why not just see what happens? Maybe he comes back and plays great

Lastly and most importantly...he isnt a free agent who’s here for one season. He’s a guy we are drafting to be a difference maker for a decade. You say you understand this but have ONLY focused your opinion on his value THIS season! Not a great way to build a team.

I watched four games last night; Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, And Ole Miss.

Of those four, Kentucky was easily the best. They put him head-up on the center and the guy couldn’t handle Simmons’ quickness. He wasn’t dominant though. I’d say consistently disruptive.

Of the games I watched, I’d say the top-5 pick is a bit of hyperbole. He’s a good player. He only popped off the screen against Kentucky. He was solid in the others. His quickness and athleticism are obvious. He has prototypical size. He definitely plays hard and hustles. He plays too high and loses leverage to much.

I’ll probably do a full breakdown over the weekend and post it after the draft.

I don’t think you e watched him play. He can play NT head up or 1 tech. He can play 3 tech and 5 Tech. He played all over the DL and was good everywhere. Why? Because he’s a strong player who can stack double teams and is hard to move even when doubled. And when singled up, he can win with power or quickness! What’s not to like?

I saw KY, AL and MS too (not FL). I think the Iowa tape is even more impressive than the KY tape. I also love that 4 down stand against Bama at the end.

He does play too high, though that is typical of guys 6'4" and over and is easily correctable for a guy with work ethic.

"Top 5 pick" is hard to gauge. I will say though the only other DL I watch whom I liked better was Quinnen William. I easily put Simmons over Oliver and Wilkins -- both of whom I also liked.

Simmons is also a guy who can be moved all over the line, which is very valuable with our scheme.
