He does not have elite bend. He's not as stiff as I originally thought after watching the first time, but he's nowhere close to Landry in the bend department.

My thing with Burns is he can't tackle. If you watch his tape he goes in too high a lot of the time and has to drag the guy down, or hold him until help arrives. He's also built like Justin Hunter and needs to add about 20 pounds of muscle because he has no power at all. Descent bend and get off aren't going to cut it in the NFL.

I'm all about Winovich. He'll make the defense fun to watch.

I see a lot of people have Winovich in the 2nd and I like him, but I think he's a 3rd. His combine numbers are very good and he's a high motor every play every time type of guy...but he rarely beats people with technique. He mostly beats people out hustling them or being a better athlete. He'll have a harder time in the NFL unless he gets better technique.

The more and more I watch Burns, the more he reminds me of Kearse. Burns put on 15lbs for the combine, Kearse even had trouble keeping weight on. Burns is very explosive

I'd disagree. I took some screen shots off a youtube vid to highlight his bend.

He's the black shape at a severe bend! This is what Landry does.

    upload_2019-4-22_23-52-15.png

He's the guy at the bottom dipping under the LT and blowing by him. Not the best angle for bend but you get the idea.

Here's a better angle and how you run the arc!

    upload_2019-4-22_23-55-41.png

Here's a better angle of the same play for full appreciation. Aren't many others in this draft that can bend like this.

And I think you're underselling his explosiveness. It showed up in the combine (he has elite 10 yard burst for a WR...let alone a 249lb EDGE) and it shows up on tape. He's also has a nice inside counter and better hands that Landry didn't have when he came out last year. But Landry can convert speed to power and that is the one flaw in Burns game. But he can get a bit bigger and definitely stronger to develop that.

He doesn't have decent get off, he has a great getoff. You're right in that he goes too high too often, but I think he was taught to go for the ball too much - which he does which leads to some FF's but also to some drag down tackles. I don't think he needs to be 270lbs. A stronger 260lbs with better strength and learn to convert his speed to power ala Frank Clark and he'll be fine. He uses his hands pretty well against the run so despite his lack in size and overall strength, he's hard to get outside on when he locks out.

I think he's an equal prospect to Landry if not slightly better in some ways (not as good in others as mentioned above). He is more developed as a pass rusher in terms of moves and a plan...and Landry had questions coming off his last season battling an ankle which saw his production drop. But Landry was still a first round talent that dropped over those concerns. Biggest concern for me is not having that speed to power thing which most top pass rushers have. But you can coach that. You can't coach his burst and bend.

the only edge guys I want in the 1st rnd are Sweat and Burns....Allen doesn't have a chance to make it to #19

then I want Wilkins or Dexter Lawrence or trade down and grab an OC/G type

Burns also has the best spin move in the draft with an above average bend.

Run stopping and setting up the edge especially againts power formations are his biggest concerns.

I hope that other teams overthink Burns like they did Landry and he falls to us at 19.
