No, a poor way to approach the draft is "we went defense last year so i think we should go offense this year" lol cmon man

    Never said that

We've done it the past few years, and its a heavy pass rusher draft. We are likely to find a capable starter in the 2nd.

It's common knowledge you don't draft for need, that is what free agency is for. Draft BPA, fill needs in FA.

You eventually have to start getting young skill position players on offense, and I think we are in a pretty good spot to do that at 19.

I think we approach it the way we did last year..... get a guy in the 2nd to learn, like landry did with Morgan last year.

1st round last year was generally the same way, draft Evans to learn behind Woody before we kick him to curb.

However, 1st round this year has to be to fill a MAJOR MAJOR needs - interior rush

I won’t be upset with it.

Like I said, take BPA, and that could easily be a pass rusher. I just think you could snag one in the second round.

I just think it’s a poor strategy to load up so heavily on defense in the draft, and in 4 years you have half your defense leaving or eating up monster contracts. Some balance is good.

We could really be hurting on offense if DW doesn’t come back strong and Henry doesn’t pick up where he left off. I just don’t think we’ve done enough there, imo.

Agreed, keep a close eye on who we bring in for visits, interviews, etc... That has a big hand in players we take..

Everybody thought that 'trait' was blown up last year with us taking Rashaan Evans, but Rashaan Evans was on the visits/interviews list.... Coaches gave him an interview at his Pro Day.

Agree with most of this...but while Ford has good tape, so far McCoy has the best tape for me so far. Of the OC's and OG's available...I think McCoy and Bradbury are the most starter ready considering size, strength, movement skills and tape. That said, I'd probably go in another direction and try and get one of them in round 2. I think there are other players who could make it to us at 19 but not much further and some guys we like we might need to move up a few spots for.

But Bradbury would be a guy that matches player, position, and need so I COULD see it happening...but I don't think that's the most likely choice. Think DL, EDGE, WR or TE are more likely.

I like Brown too...just not sure if we'd use him correctly.

In a sense you are both right. What matters last year doesn't matter in terms of, we've drafted x 3 times in a row so we HAVE to go the other side. You draft based on best value/best player matching needs. But you do have to be mindful of contracts and when they come up.

If Mariota isn't back next year and we grab another rookie qb the next year...the rook is gonna go thru some growing pains anyway.

BPA...haven't we gone beyond that now? And if you're saying in your next paragraph its a poor strategy to just load up on D...what if DL is the BPA available every year. Will it work if every 1st and 2nd round pick for 5 years in a row are DL? It doesn't work for any position to put that many resources into it. So we need an adjustment in thinking. BPA does not work.

Not only would we be hurting on offense if he doesn't come back strong, we need another WR, another IOL, and we don't know if Smith will be able to take over for DW in the long term or just be a #2 TE. Plus, giving your QB who got beaten up more protection and more weapons will always HELP!!! And if that's Mariota moving forward or a rookie next year...always good to put them in the best position to succeed.

I mean, you clearly have to have some discrepancy. If there is a run on edge rushers, and we got a guy projected to go in the 2nd who is next on the list, or a top 10 guy at another position who slid, who are you going to take?

I sure hope it’s not the edge guy simply because it’s a bigger need.

I mean, we saw how bad this team was without Walker last year. Add in the fact that we have no clue how he will recover and how much longer we have with him, TE is definitely an option. I’d say maybe even more than WR. I could easily see us going C/G or a TE over a WR and grabbing a wideout later (hence interviewing deebo samuel)...Naturally, that’s saying we go offense of course...but I agree that interior DL is a huge need.
