Kyler Murray declares for draft

This year’s round of unnamed, anonymous jeers were revealed earlier this week by NFL Network analyst and former Houston Texans general manager Charlie Casserly, who said the reviews he heard from teams about Kyler Murray’s interviews at last week’s NFL scouting combine were the worst he’d ever heard for a top quarterback prospect.

“Leadership? Not good. Study habits? Not good. The [white]board work? Below not good,” Casserly said. “Not good at all in any of those areas and raising major concerns about what this guy is going to do.”

The anonymous critique was roundly roasted, with Murray’s college coach at Oklahoma (Lincoln Riley) and agent (Erik Burkhardt) vigorously defending the 21-year-old Heisman Trophy winner. Riley called Murray a “tremendous leader” while Burkhardt said it was the “usual predraft nonsense” and “disgusting” and embarrassing.”

It’s probably correct to assume Casserly’s comments hold some truths if you’ve ever witnessed an interview with this kid. He appears to have the the maturity level of a 15 year old. Maybe it’s all an act but it’s not a good look.

 

Sounds like a more talented Johnny Football. Hopefully the Jags take him and he busts.

 

Not a shock, he does not come off as very bright

He already has the height thing working against him. He cannot afford other major flaws

 

Cards gonna make a huge mistake if they pass on Bosa, Williams, etc.

 

He's making the right move for sure. The nfl is a qb thirsty league, any qb with measurables or stats against good competition is almost a first round lock. This draft is pretty weak with qbs, so this guy goes top 10, if not top 5. Unless he absolutely sucks or starts doing drugs, he'll get looks as a backup for at least 3 more seasons after his rookie deal (worst case). That will put him at about 30 years old and have made at least 25 million, up to this point. Then he can leave the nfl (if he sucks) and go play baseball for 10 years and make another 25 million minimum or ride the cfl, aal, xfl (or whatever) or arena football leagues for another 5 years and make at least 5 million more. But, if he stays with baseball and doesn't cut it the path looks much worse. He'll get much less guaranteed money and AA and AAA contracts are way less than mlb contracts (top notch guys get 100s of thousands not millions). He also has a better chance as an nfl player to land endorsement deals. For a guy like this the nfl is absolutely the right choice.
