I did that for my Moms Bday, she cried and said it was the nicest thing shes ever read.

I think cards are a waste but that was the best $8 I ever spent

 

This gives me an idea. Maybe from now on I'll just take an envelope and fill it with the $8 and write a short message on one of the bills...

If it was me I'd rather have the cash than the card

You are looking at this from the wrong perspective, the receiver. Of course no one cares about getting the cards, but cards aren’t sold to them ... cards are sold to the giver.

From the giver perspective, it’s just enough to ensure the receiver can’t ***** about you forgetting about their birthday or whatever. Even they don’t like it, they can’t say anything about it.

It’s like the trump card. You both know what it means, but they are forced to recognize that you remembered them, no matter how ****** they feel about it.

 

But you can’t be like “awe, Gma forgot my birthday”

Gma didn’t forget your birthday, and if you complain about only getting a card from Gma, you look like a chump.
