We are literally taking 1 game and setting an opinion of a guy overall? Mariota isn’t terrible by any means, he has moments and can comeback....The problem is, he can’t control a game start to finish often, he can’t stay healthy, he is jumpy in the pocket, and his stats are abysmal. He has 7 wins (2 by Gabby)...So by no means is he “balling”...His defense played their hearts out too, thank god, because we weren’t even sniffing playoffs without it. That’s facts.

 

He just started calling his own plays this year. And if you watch the games not stats he manages them well.

I agree about pocket presence but he was making great improvements before he got injured. The health is also an issue.

To me everything is fixable. And the fact that he's beaten some really good teams tell me he can control a game enough to dominate the Patriots.

 

Yea, he manages them well, as long as he doesn’t need to score TD or anything.

Fixable when? Year 5 and still has pocket awareness issues and clearly enough other issues that the playcalling doesn’t allow for him to pass as often as the rest of the league.
While I give credit that he played in wins over good teams, he’s just as involved in some of the losses to bad teams.

 

Trent Green Kurt Warner Drew Brees Alex Smith all struggled their first 4 years

Of those 4, and considering the passing rules of the time, brees and green were substantially better than what mariota had presented, brees clearly “got it” in his 4th year.
Warner was a different scenario entirely as his “first 4 years”, were actually spent bagging groceries and in the AFL, then he was given Tory Holt, Isaac Bruce, and Marshall Faulk, 3 HoFers, not just good players.
Alex Smith is legit comparable. He was on a bad team his first couple years like mariota and struggled. Just for sake of argument, I would be happy with mariota for a career if he’s ends up like Alex Smith. I know a lot of fans here would not be happy with that because he’s “not good enough”.

 

Rosen for a 4th if Cards draft Murray?

Haven't seen Rosen play but understand his stats were awful as a 21 year old rookie on a bad team.

also no way they draft a new qb after trading up for rosen, or give him away for a 4th for the same reasons
