Why do that when you dont have to?

We can still keep him without investing the 5th yr option right now. I don even think id want us paying him the 5th yr option price ($12.5M)

If he proves to be as good as he once was just extend him. No reason to take his option right now.

JRob said they hadn't gotten the exact amount yet he'd cost for the fifth season.

It should be in the 12.5M range, thats what it is for the guys picked at his spot the yr before

Does it matter what his position is? I heard PK say that his option value would be affected by the value of all tackles, not just right tackles. So, Lewans mega deal would play into the value of Conklins. I wonder if we move him to guard and then pick up his option if it would be a lot cheaper. Or is it the position he was drafted at?

For us to be able to get him for Guard money his 5th year as a pro, he first has to play Guard 8 games to qualify.

There is no reason not to pick up his option right now. It is not guaranteed until after next season is over. He plays well, great. We have him for another year and more time to come to an agreement on an extension. He plays bad? We cut him and it;s like we never picked up his option.

It all depends on how you look at it but I don’t disagree with your point of view. If you don’t extend him and he plays well, yes you can extend him but that 2019 cap hit is gonna be a hell of a lot more than 12.5/13 mil which would be bargain if you pick up the option now. Your rolling the dice but Conk up until his injury was playing well and considering where he was drafted, I’d take my chance and pick it up. Lewan played this year off his 5th yr option for 10 mil which all things considering was a bargain. Titans from a cap and roster standpoint need to do a lot of shuffling to help plug holes so it’ll be interesting how it all plays out.

Pre injury he was better than Lewan, post injury he isn't better than Spain. No way I pick up his 5th year option.

If I had any moolah I'd bet it all that we pick up his option
