Because our OG's are getting Mariota killed combined with poor RT play this year from Conklin coming off of injury.

In contrast...

Colts now have one of the best OL's going from last to Id guess at least top 5 this year by taking a G and then a T last year. This allows them to have consistent offense and Luck to rarely be sacked...and in our game against him earlier...wasn't even touched. Henry and Mariota could use a significant upgrade to our 31st ranked OL.

 

It's not so much that he's on a stacked line...though that IS a factor...but that he was maxed out as a college player.

Starting to wonder if Conklin is in that boat too...might need to move inside to OG if he plays like last year again.

 

It's a real possibility. But two things. Hard to know if Conklin played poorly last year because he really wasn't all the way back from his injury. Kelly looked like he outplayed him when Conklin was gone the rest of the way. I've suggested maybe moving Conklin inside to replace Spain as a possibility if they think Kelly can hold up a full season at RT and if Conklin can play OG at his height. usually my cutoff is 6'5 because the taller you are, the harder it is to stay under the DT's.

Of course, if Conklin comes back and looks good again at RT, you probably leave him there. Good RT's are much harder to find than a good RG.

 

True! The flipside is...everyone knew Nelson was a stud and probably gonna be the best OG to come out since Zac Martin. We don't know that about these guys...yet! I haven't really started watching film on these guys. Also keep in mind a lot of college OT's will be moved to OG in the NFL so don't just look at OG's in college.

Not only did they take him in the 1st, but they took him 6th overall!! And last years first was on a C at like 18th or so.

I hate it, it's not a sexy pick. But if there is a top IOL at our pick, you need to consider that. It's the only thing that can really fix the offense next year.
