I realize I could be mistaken about all this. It took me longer than it should’ve to get off the Mett Train.

Yes, its obvious that Mularkey was the problem. His run-run-run-punt and run-run-pass-punt playbook is archaic.

He owed at least 2 wins each season to Mariota bailing him out, that and the fact that our division was absolute garbage both years.

Remember the playoffs against the Chiefs last year? Did Mularkey play any part in that win? No. The Titans won because he abandoned his playbook and allowed Mariota to run no-huddle. Did Mularkey learn anything from that?

No. As soon as he thought his job was secured, Mularkey went right back to his sillyass playbook.

Do you remember what happened the following game against the Pats? If you don't, Mularkey sure does. He lost and then announced that he had no intention of making any changes to his system.

Whether or not hiring Vrabel was the right move is open for debate. Whether or not firing Mularkey was the right move is not.

People want to point at 9-7 as good. We should have walked away with our crap division those years. Talk about squandering opportunity.

It's sad when fans look back on that as good times...

"Hey, remember when we got damned lucky and fell ass-backwards into the playoffs? What a great year..."

We absolutely needed a new OC. A lot of the plays we ran were just not good plays.

I guess the Titans should have refused the playoff berth. Maybe they should do the same if they qualify this season, eh?

Honestly, I'm just trying to get all this straight. So: Mularkey was THE PROBLEM. Because the team he coached to two winning seasons, which had been one of the league's worst for several years, just didn't win enough games (or wasn't impressive enough?), or get into the playoffs in an impressive-enough fashion. THE SOLUTION is (POSSIBLY!) a rookie head coach with minimal NFL position coaching experience...or maybe he's not. NEXT YEAR will tell...but at least we won't have an embarrassing/undeserved playoff appearance/victory to shame us. Unless we happen to "back into" a playoff appearance again (of course, that would be different than and more justified than last year's right?).
