Hey all. Tough loss for you guys last week but have no fear because the Jets are coming to town next. My wife and I live in Florida and always try to pick one away game to use as a mini vacation and since we’ve always wanted to visit Nashville anyway, this game is the perfect chance. We love good grub, pubs & craft beer and I’m looking for a bit of advice. We are not “touristy” people so we always try to find the cool local spots.

We will be staying near the Opry house but will spend most of our time downtown. Any advice on places to check out or avoid will be greatly appreciated.

Don't buy tickets from the scalpers. They will be fake.

If you're by Opryland Hotel then make sure to stop in at Cock of the Walk which just an exit down. If you're really social then downtown Broadway is where you will want to be. Lots of good restaurants and bars there. You can check out the Cumberland Science Museum and Country Music Hall of fame, or maybe a show at TPAC.

Don't buy into the whole Nashville Hot Chicken thing. It's a scam.

Also, if you get on one of those pedal taverns......pedal that damn thing! I get tired of those slow asses making my commute longer than it needs to be.

    Welcome to Nashville.

I moved your thread here as there are already lots of tips for the out-of-towner.

There's so much available, both touristy and not. It might help to know more about what you're into.

I think you have to do Lower Broadway even though it's VERY touristy. It's just an unique experience and the people watching doesn't get much better.

All the Jets fans will be in and around there on Saturday night.

Just a short few blocks away is Printer's Alley where you can hear some blues if country isn't your thing. There are lots of bars and such just off Broad as well.

Not too far from Broad is The Gulch. More upscale food and trendy. Lots of options. Yazoo is a local beer that has a place there.

If you are into old architecture, Union Station hotel is pretty nice. It's next to the Frist Center (art museum) and the Flying Saucer Tap Room is next door. It's actually on up Broad towards the Gulch.

I've not been out by the Opryland Hotel in a long time but, if you are tempted to see the Christmas lights in the hotel, park over at Opry Mills (the huge mall next to it) and walk over to avoid the parking fee you have if you park at the hotel.

Enjoy Nashville. Spend a lot. ;)

I wouldn't say scam... but definitely a fad. Like when chipotle was flavoring everything or avocado was on just about evwrything...

So is avocado on everything... some people really like it, but it's overrated and will just be "another thing" at a restaurant soon enough.

LIke others have said... Check out the Country Christmas at Opryand Hotel - About a $20-$30 Uber from downtown - but perhaps worth it because parking at Opryland hotel is $28.. or like TJ said, park at the mall and wear your walking shoes.

The Theme is How the Grinch Stole Christmas - Me, Nephew Gunner and the whole family are actually going this weekend as well.

Excited to see the ice sculptures.
