You’re right how does mariota compare against young qbs in the playoffs? Asking for a friend.

 

We obviously can’t compare mariota to McNair or young and we can’t compare mariota to young qbs in the playoffs that would be selective.......wait a second.......

 

What's the common thing you hear in post game interviews after a big win from 8's teammates? All of them, offensive unit and defensive unit, they all consistently say the same thing about MM8 and that is they have trust in him leading the team to victory. Guy is in control with ice in his viens. Yes, I want to see more consistency and if he gets us a division title then extend him right away.

 

It's almost like they (teammates) understand that he is doing so in year 4 and his 3rd different HC and all the changes that come with changing HC's.

I was in the stands every week during that stretch...there were SOME fans that wanted to bench McNair...they were vocal but it wasn't the majority.

 

Marcus has had a very hard time in the NFL since coming into the league, he was a spread QB which never played under center since highschool but Whiz did not want to change his scheme so Marcus went under center. Then during year 2 half way through the season Marcus had his first coaching change to Mularky finishing out the season with Whiz's scheme. Year 3 Marcus ran what Mularky called EXOTIC Smash Mouth which was still not what Marcus was used to yet he stuck in there and played out the season and made it to the playoffs. Year 4 he had his 3rd coaching change in 4 years to a offense that is more catered to Marcus's strengths but after playing 3 years under center and learning a new playbook almost every season isnt good for a QB yet he never complained once and just kept grinding. You cant compare stats from 1 QB to another because not every QB is in the same situation, Marcus's numbers isnt the worst or the best but he just needs time in the same system for more than 1 year, then we can compare some stats.

 

We are going to invest and probably should work to resign mariota. It's already been said that there isn't gonna be much better out there coming out the draft or FA. He's also not gonna cost us games week in week out. He has been an average qb for the 2 year's recent and I do believe it is down to all the coaching changes. If he can forget all that past and stick with vrabel/la fleur (And we keep them in a job) he might excel.

The next problem, how much is he worth for 4-5 year's and is he even willing to sign with us? Look at what he's been through.

 

He'll sign with us, no doubt. You never hear of QBs not signing with a team that wants them, let alone ones with as little of an attitude is MM8.
