Post-Game Thread Titans 26, Eagles 23 OT

It can't be understated what a difference having Conklin in is...to know your all pro bookend tackles are healthy and will give you time can't be overstated. Ben Jones is having a good year and Spain isn't horrible. Just need to get Kelly back in the fold.

Really want to see more from Evans but Brown has been quite encouraging to see.

Looking back on it it's amazing how resilient these guys were yesterday. ThE Titans teams of the past would have lost this game 3 times in past seasons.

They wouldn't have scored 17 unanswered points against an elite Eagles unit.

They would have folded during the Eagles last drive in the fourth quarter after that huge sucking chest wound of a punt return.

They definitely wouldn't have been able to regain their footing and stop the Eagles drive in OT. Even though they gave up the FG you need to give them a ton of credit for giving us one last shot to win.

Marcus Mariota looked astounding yesterday. Noy just in the fourth quarter either. He was hitting guys deep all day. It was by far the best his deep ball has ever looked in his Titans career and it makes it hard not just declare him God-king of Nashville.

If Marcus Mariota can even be 80% as good as he was against Philly, on a consistent, weekly basis, then this is a team that can get to the Superbowl. The team we saw yesterday was good enough to get the a playoff bye week and once you get to the AFCC it's all about who's hot.

I will admit that I was wrong and the offense opened up a lot more than I expected which was nice to see. Good to see we took advantage of Philly's poor DBs and aggressive front 7 to go deep on numerous plays.

As good as this win was, we shouldn't be overconfident. There are still a lot of things that need improving.

• Our run game is bad. Last year we could impose our will on even the best rush defenses (and that was even with a leg-less Mariota), but this year we go almost as much backwards as forwards.
• Derrick Henry really needs to work on balance. He is good at falling forward for additional yards, but he falls way too easy.
• Mariota is still too inconsistent. He played his ass off in the game, but his accuracy is still a problem. He can throw the deep strike to Davis but on a different play Davis had the corner beat on an out-n-up/chair route and Mariota throws it behind him so Davis has to go back and get it.
• Receivers need to stop dropping easy catches. Sharpe, Taylor and Jennings are not rookies, they need to show it.

On the positive side our defense is pretty damn good. But we knew that coming in to the season and we've only added additional talent (though Evans looked a little suspect in pass coverage a couple of times)

 

What I like about Lewis is no tackle on him a sure thing. He does not stop till he is literally laying on the ground.

No. Lewan got absolutely embarrassed by Barnett for a sack, but he was also rock solid in pass protection the rest of the game.
