But again, why didnt they? Saying they should have isnt a reason to not doing it.

Plus, how is going to a strip club a fireable offense? OSU isnt BYU. Smith says he spent his own money, not school money, and that the HS coaches with them paid their own way. I get it could be an NCAA violation if they paid for the HS coaches, but since that apparently didnt happen, how is that a fireable offense to begin with?

knew about what? some accusations? lol

i didnt realize you fire people over not firing other people for allegations (that were cleared). thats a ridiculous precedent to set.

twitter lawyers want to fire everyone over allegations and no due process though, i get it

because zachs family is close with urbans and he was trying to help him, he admits that in the investigation as well. thus, the suspension.

But you are saying he should have been fired for going to a strip club?

ANd hold up. Urban is saying he didnt know about the accusations. so which is it? Did he know about them or not?

I know why Urban didnt fire him, why didnt the school step in and fire him?

no he should not of been fired for the strip club, i think thats silly in general. but claiming he went on recruiting trips and not actually going but still getting paid... he should have absolutely been fired for that, or at least heavily punished. and after all these things added up its certainly enough to warrant firing.

and i agree the school should have stepped in, he was half assing it. i would have canned him after the rehab thing FOR SURE too. although im not sure that they knew he left early at the time.

Just seems like a lot of backtracking to protect Meyer. IF these things werent big incidents then, then why should they be now?

And my guess, is that this is going to get worse for OSU before it gets better. And I put a lot of blame on the powers at be for that. They have handled this terribly. The press conference was a joke, and all of these statements Meyer keeps releasing are terrible, and just keep adding fuel to the fire. A longer suspension, and a statement from Meyer and Smith saying they messed up and would make sure they did better in the future, would have gone over much better than what they are doing now, which comes across as nothing more than excuses.

i agree they still aren't big incidents but thanks to the twitter mob they absolutely HAVE to give them some sort of punishment otherwise everyone will lose their ****. and since they didnt actually cover any DV up and did follow the processes, this is the only thing they can really punish them for.
i think he should have gotten no suspension, he didnt cover anything up he is just the scapegoat that the mob wants punished. but the university basically has no choice.

also i dont see anything else arising out of this for ohio state.

zach smith still has to go to court so im sure there will be a whirlwind around that but as for as the university goes, as soon as that suspension is done the rest doesnt matter. even if they find zach DID beat her or something, urban isnt living with them and the police cleared everything at the time, you can only work with the information you have .

You may end up being right, I dont know what will ultimately come of this. But I wouldnt be nearly as optimistic as you are. Keep in mind, Jim Tressel was originally suspended for 2 games, on 3/8/11. He wasnt fired (or techinically resigned) until 5/30/11. Now, obviously the situations arent the same, and I am not saying by any means it is certain that Meyer will be fired at any point. But I will say he isnt out of the woods by any stretch. They had a trustee who resigned over this. And he didnt resign because he was out to get OSU, he resigned because he was a part of all this, and read the reports, and had probably more information than we have, and he thought Meyer staying on wasnt the right move (or at least there should have been a longer suspension) and that the whole thing lacked integrity.

I dont think one person throwing a fit because they didn't go with his suggestion is going to have any effect. Wanting a longer suspension is fine but it's a bit childish to resign because everyone didn't do what you wanted. He can claim to be taking the high road or whatever but its a BOARD not a "do what i want or i quit". The evidence clearly does not support firing Urban but many people have been swept up in the media firestorm that this whole thing has been so its not so farfetched to think that had an effect on him resigning

And you are right about Tressel but the difference in the Tressel instance was that Tressel lied directly to NCAA questioning about knowing about the tattoos. that is the reason he was fired.

and honestly everyone who likes OSU hates the old prez for that, fired over tattoos.... unreal.

He didnt throw a fit. People quit boards all the time if they dont think they are operating properly, or with integrity. Whether that be at a University, business, charity, or whatever.

YOu might hate the old president, but OSU also would have had sanctions if they kept him on. So the decision was essentially to fire him, and go get another coach, or to live through it and likely play with reduced scholarships and a bowl ban for a few years.
