Did he get a 2nd opinion?

I’m sure he’s fine. He probably just almost tore it.

How long would that surgery take to recover from? A few weeks?

Mathews seems to have recovered quite quick.

Takes about six for complete recovery. The problem is the meniscus is like a shock absorber between the upper and lower leg. It gets frayed from years of cushioning the heavy impacts in the knee compartment. Arthroscopy goes in and shaves it back smooth. Drawback is that you lose some of that cushioning architecture but it's necessary to clean up the frayed edges because they get "caught" between ends of the bones and pull the tear further.

The long term take on arthroscopy is that it really is a sign of the beginning of the end. With less cartilage, the knee is set up for a more rapid development of arthritis. Sometimes you can injecct a synthetic in the knee to replace some of that removed cartilage to improve the cushioning, but you can really only do that a few times.

So, the knee is significantly swollen for about 14 days after the procedure but usually takes a full 6 weeks until you can comfortably put 100% of the pre-surgery activity back on knee unit.

This sucks. We need Morgan on the field. He'll miss the first 2-3 games it sounds like. Landry will be counted on often and early.

If Orakpo isn't ready to go by week 1, this becomes a REAL problem.

I know Finch and Wallace have flashed but we definitely don't want them starting opposite a rookie in week 1

Mathews has been out since the beginning of OTAs, right? He hasn't been quick at all, which leads me to believe they did a Meniscal Repair instead of just cleanup or trim. Thoughts @Riverman

In PK's post it sounds like Matthews will be back before Morgan
