There are so many unknowns, I only have one prediction: We won't be mediocre. We will either flourish in the new scheme with new coaches, or we will take a step back because of it.

I will say one thing. There's no way we're going 5-1 in the division this year. I look at our division and wonder if we can even go 3-3. If we change our offensive scheme to a more modern type of offense, that puts us at a disadvantage against Jacksonville IMO. Their defense is built to stop an offense just like that. The reason we were successful last year against them is because we ran right at them and smacked them in the mouth. The old school approach by Mularkey and Co. actually worked against them.

While on the division, there's Houston who scares the begeezus out of me - the put up 50+ on us last year and are getting Watt and Mercilus back.

I am cautiously optimistic however. Putting MM8 in an offense similar to what he played in college and plays to his strengths will hopefully see a huge uptick in their production. But can they score against the likes of Jax and Hou, that's my question.

Tennessee Titans: No More Training Wheels for Mariota

The Tennessee Titans won a playoff game last year for the first time in well over a decade. If the Titans are going to get back in 2018, a lackluster offense must improve.

That means quarterback Marcus Mariota has to make a big jump.

Yes, Mariota was nicked up much of last year. The play-calling of Mike Mularkey wasn't exactly revolutionary. And the team's receiving corps wasn't scaring anyone.

But injuries and meh receivers aren't fully to blame for Mariota throwing two more interceptions than touchdowns. Mariota has to make better decisions with the football.

New head coach Mike Vrabel and the team has to put Mariota in a better position to succeed though. Open the offense up. Make calls that highlight the things Mariota does best, like throwing on the move.

Assuming that an improved receiving corps (featuring a healthy Corey Davis) does its part, we should see a little more exotic and a little less smashmouth.

considering the top teams are the Eagles, Vikings, and Saints and everyone after is a significant drop off, anywhere between 7-11, depending mostly on our defense.

I get it. Something has to be blamed for Mariota throwing more tds than ints but too much is being made of his decision making being an issue.

My expectation is 10-6 and win the division. I think that's realistic. I'll feel indifferent about 9 wins and severely disappointed with any less

I've got a taste of the playoffs and I like it. Let's do that again.

The similarities of the hiring scenario:

Coach that has the team going the right direction gets booted.

New coach comes in and fans act like they're going to change the world.

Could easily see this ending the same way.

Vrabel is a mega question mark. As is Lefleur, basically.

Hopefully Vrabel knows how to get to Watson and we can sweep the texans.

Mularkey didn't have this team going in the right direction. With a franchise qb and an above average roster he got very little out of his players. Trying to force players into his scheme instead of figuring out their strengths.

eeeh fair enough on the last part

at this point everyone in the Titan FO seems reasonable and will keep what is working ( locker room culture ) and ditch what is not ( caveman philosophy ).

Wizinator had a 'system' and he cared not about anything else

    lol wut?

Didn't have them going the right direction??

First playoff win in how long?

One of the least penalized teams in the league. (disciplined)

    13th ranked Defense.

And got a playoff win with no QB.

"with a franchise QB"... yeah, a "franchise" qb that couldn't pass the ball to anyone wearing the same jersey.

Granted- lots of this success is due to injuries in the AFC south.
