Man, that is some bullsht. What kind of person comes up with a law that says after 6 months of doing whatever, I'm entitled to half your possessions?

That rule should be either marriage certificate or 5 years.

that rule doesnt even exist in like 1/2 the US states anymore, and each state where it does is a state-by-state basis on the time it takes

Oh he will get away with it. Money resolves everything...all they need to do is find one piece of bad evidence.

 

It’s generally a doctrine imposed to achieve a fair result these days. Situations like where a non married couple lives in a house in one name, but both pay on the mortgage for years. Or if your girlfriend works in your business for years, and adds value to it, and then you boot her.

I’ve never seen a case where it’s a six months here’s half a house kind of thing.

6 months seems way too short and I have seen it as high as 10 years before common law marriage.
