Will Mariota play better or worse in 2018

    So much divisive arguments this off season about Mariota.

    By almost any measure, Mariota got worse last year.
    Way worse if you look at TD/INT ratios, a little worse if you look at advanced metrics like Total QBR.

    The divisiveness seems to center around WHY he got worse.
    Some say its cause he is just not that good.
    Some say its cause of the poor offensive scheme we had last year.

    Some say the new offense this year will let Mariota shine.
    Some say he will be just as bad (mediocre) as he was last year.

    I have an opinion about this, but i realize its an OPINION, just a guess really.

    Wha'ts your opinion?

    It'd be almost impossible to do worse than he was last year.


    I think he looks like a different player this year after having an offseason and a better offensive system.

    He is clearly going to do better. The scheme we ran last year was from a 1953 high school team. The simple facts that we aren’t running an injured back into a stacked box, and our “#1 wide receiver” is healthy and a year deep, will help a lot. Add in that Dion Lewis is now in the mix, and the almighty “Tajae Sharpe” is back, and we are set to go. I do think with our schedule and new scheme, Mariota will have some rough patches with working though it, which is why I said a little better.

    I think we'll see that step forward from 2016 that we were all expecting to see last year.....I think Mariota lights it up this year with a scheme built to his strengths.

    Predicting Mariota will have an mvp type season if these coaches are the real deal which I believe they are. He didn't regress last season just had bad luck and an offensive scheme that catered entirely towards and injured RB.

    In no way is that backtracking.

    Mariota was good in 2016.

    He as trash in 2017.

    I'm thinking he'll be good in 2018.

    Doesnt mean he magically wasn't trash in 2017.


    Observation isn't hard. Try it.
