Been a looong time since I posted here but starting a thread on the defensive backs. Signed Malcolm Butler. Adoree is in year 2. Ryan is playing in a position he's thrived at. And we have one of the best young FS in the game along with a run stuffer and hitter.

On top of that, we also have some hopeful improvements with the pass rush with Landry and Evans. A healthy Daquan Jones.

    What's our ceiling?

I like our group, excited to see what they can do this year.
But I'd sign Tre Boston or Eric Reid and move Cyprien to LB when Woodyard leaves next year.

For once I like our secondary

If we can just manage to get Cyp off the field on passing downs we stand a good chance at having a top shelf secondary

Cyp sucks. Can't cover. Takes bad angles.

I like the group as a whole though. I would have liked more size brought in, but oh well. Four of the five are generously listed at 5'11".

Tre Boston or Eric Reid would be nice additions. Only 25/26 yrs old, 6'1" 210lbs

Good call, Cyp has no business trying to cover on passing situations but he can hit when he's not playing slip and slide out there.

Size at DB is a luxury.

After several failed attempts at developing the prototypical built corners I've come to see it's best to just get guys that can run with anyone and track the ball than to try making a guy into something he cant be.

5'11 isnt "small" either BTW, and since football is played on the ground DBs have a chance when gravity sets in. Theres more to winning a jump ball than just out jumping a DB.

Cyp should have a MUCH better year this year. He was awful at times last year. With the upgrade in DB's and him playing healthy we should see a much improved Cyp

It's not small, but I think Jackson and Ryan are generously listed at that height, especially Jackson.

I'd like some size somewhere in the secondary, and it isn't there. Oh well.

A lot of good points being made.

I feel you guys about Cyp. Hopefully they use him right and he's not a liability. I'm wondering if Cruikshank has any shot at earning time this year at SS. With all of the depth at CB, I wonder if they push him towards Safety this year.

Also something I'm just now thinking about, I wonder if our LB group will improve our pass D. Jayon Brown has been great in coverage and at stopping 3rd downs, he's coming back more equipped. Also Evans might be better in coverage than Williamson.

We might have a pretty solid team this year if the D-Line plays like last year. Used to be where teams couldn't run on us but they could throw all over us. We might be close to closing that loophole and being a premier defense.
