Found some tweets that give you an idea of what the new staff is thinking about for our new offense.

Who thought Lewis was brought here to catch all the balls out of the backfield?

Looks like Taylor is the reason they didnt do much at WR in the off season, they like the new fold he adds to the offense that we lacked last year.

Then there is this, Rams used 3 WR sets more than anyone in the league, look for us to deploy more 11 personal this year too.

Gonna be a big year for Mariota, and the timing couldn't be better. As a 4th year pro he should have a career year.

They had an interview with LaFleur on 104.5 this week and he cited having worked with RGIII in his rookie year as an example of how he was going to use Marcus. I don't know about you guys but that scares the heck out of me.

it scares you that we might use ALL of our QBs abilities?

Why? RG3 has around 4000 yards of offensive production that year.

And RG3 wasnt killed on running plays, he was creamed in the pocket, and didnt get the slide figured out in time.

It's been proven time and time again that QBs who run a lot are at much higher risk of injury. Shanahan ruined RGIII by running him too much. Sure he had good production his rookie year, but what is that compared to the increased risk of injury, and risking your QB being out for the year with an injury that they could possibly never fully recover from?

And on the hit he took that hurt his knee, he wasn't in the pocket, he was running (though not a designed run) and hit by Ngata and his leg looked like it snapped.

You're just playing with fire when you put your QB on the move too often - and with MM8 not having played an entire season it seems foolish to increase his risk of injury. I'm not saying never run him, or never put in a designed run, but use it sparingly once or twice a game. You can use "all of his abilities" but you don't have to overuse them to put him at risk.

won't be surprised to see Jonnu in the split TE role with Delanie on the line and vice versa to have a big threat over the middle.

who cares, we want to win games. playing conservative gets you nowhere. play to mariota's strengths. we need to quit trying to make him something he isnt.

I used to think the same, but getting Mariota out in space vs smaller players is actually better for him than having a 300lb man landing on him in the pocket.

Overall tho I would prefer my QB to play within the pocket, the ball moves a lot faster when youre throwing it vs running with it. Let the playmakers on the team make the plays, but if they deem Mariota fit for the job of running it then what can I do about it...

There's a difference in playing conservative and playing foolish. You can use his mobility but don't expose him to beating after beating like RGIII. Winning means nothing if your QB is on the DL and we're searching for a new QB in a year or two.
