Pick #41 of the 2018 NFL Draft: OLB Harold Landry, Boston College

Hate to admit it but I have to agree. J.C. has gone to the probowl twice but he himself can't be solely responsible for generating pressure up the middle.

 

Nope. I'm sure Landry will be an upgrade to our ability to get to the QB as Morgan and Orakpo age, but we still havn't fixed that issue as we decided to continue with the average run stuffers.. We did for the most part fix the fact we can't cover for more than 2 seconds as others have pointed out, so we should still be better to some degree though.

 

Evans will help with middle pressure, too.

And we'd hope that D Jones continues to develop and A Johnson shows up more.

 

Bob McGinn's scouting sources on Landry -

HAROLD LANDRY, OLB, Boston College: 6-2 ½, 252. Piled up 16 ½ sacks and seven forced fumbles in 2016 before an ankle injury limited him to eight games and five sacks in ’17. “He had all the production last year,” one scout said. “Played more D-end for them but can’t be a D-end up here. Not a physical guy. Doesn’t really play hard.” Arms measured 32 7/8, ran 4.64, worked out pretty well and had 24 reps on the bench. “He needs to win initially for success,” said a second scout. “Does not fight pressure. Run-around type. Tight in space.” Scored 20 on the Wonderlic. “I think he’s a pipedream,” said a third scout. “But he could be top 50 easy.”

By far and away Landry's best move is the way that he can bend the edge...I think you will see us take advantage of his ability to get up field quickly and force the OT to open up an inside gap that we will then send Evans through on a blitz.

Landry is going to be used as the designated pass rusher this yr. I think we will see Evans lined up at both inside and outside LBer position. He is very good at attacking the QB off the edge and I think we will put him in a position to do that several times a game.

 

This guy is already the best pass rusher we have.

 

If he can squat a G he can generate middle pressure by God.

 

This guy is a sports writer and not a scout. Picking a couple of unnamed sources opinions means nothing. Let’s see what happens on the field. I’ve known a few scouts in my time, very rarely do they give the straight scoop to a beat writer.
