I feel like this is going to be my old man rant.

Competitive gaming. I don't get it.

Just play the damn game yourself. It isn't like football or basketball where you need size and speed.

Just play the damn game. Buy a copy and play it yourself.

    I DON'T UNDERSTAND

PVP is huge in games now. When its one person against another, (or groups against groups), there will always be competitiveness.

I used to enjoy watching the world first races for WoW progression raiding. Starcraft competitions are also fun to watch (if you like the game)

Esports takes something that everyone of us can do and turns it into a true free for all for anyone who is good enough to rise to the top. They aren't just a waste of time anymore. Its a billion dollar industry and estimates are that esports made anywhere from 400 to 800 million dollars last year and will be a billion dollar industry by 2020.

35,000 people attended last years Blizzcon where Blizzard releases info and other activities, all things Blizzard related. With a new expansion coming, this years attendance will break that. (For reference. Predators stadium holds 20k people)

While games like WoW have died down, there was a point where game stores used to host midnight releases and you wouldnt believe the lines at some of these places to pick up the latest release.

While many may not be interested, the thing to understand is money. Its a growing industry and will continue to grow every year. (Fluctuating depending on the popularity of upcoming games)

Competitive Gaming... perfectly fine with. Just not a sport, in my opinion.

A friend of my brother-in-law's was aimless... after a shift at some job, he'd hurry home to play his flight simulator on his pc.

Now this formerly aimless guy travels the world, fully sponsored, as a drone racer. Pulls in an average of $75k per year.

    Not a sport, though.

Competitive Gaming is fine with me.

The thing about gaming that doesn't qualify it as a sport is you're controlling something else doing something that is reliant on the 0's and 1's of a computer running the game.

I agree, but esports is now a thing at a small but growing number of colleges...

Easily the hardest, most demanding sport in the world. Grand Tour riders cover over 2000 miles and 10's of thousands of feet of climbing in 3 weeks. Averaging over 100 miles per day.
