I'm surprised you don't see it happen more often though. For instance, everyone can see, including GM's who were interested, that for example Watkins got 3yr/48M. If a GM really wanted him, they can go back with a price to beat it, an extra year, etc, and the player could change their mind easily. For players just looking for the most money possible...

Then we'll hear all 2018 why we didn't sign anyone because we need to save up for Lewan and Mary 2023 negotiations lol

Don't take my comment as saying we shouldn't spend. I'm on record saying I want a good chunk spent to improve the team. My point is that it is still early and FA hasn't technically opened. Also, I didn't see WR as big of a need, and everyone but AR got overpaid. Norwell would have been nice, but there's still options. And all the defensive players are still available, and that's where I was hoping the money would be spent this off season anyways.

But I'm not making excuses because of contract extensions, because those extension aren't this years cap problem, and Lewan won't be going up a lot from where he is now.
