Yeah, but it's THIS season. Timing is everything.

HC is a BIG responsibility to both sides of the ball. I'm reticent to fire in on a QB guru with such a narrow scope of experience/responsibility. And to lead effectively, you have to have a network of experienced guys that don't get distracted. I think McDaniels flop in Denver a good example. He made several poor decisions because he wasn't experienced enough to value what ramifications might occur from his decisions.

Don't undervalue experience. DeFillipo might be a great x and o guy, and can lead range of players limited to offense effectively- but his ability to lead defense and ST guys hasn't been proven anywhere. It's a much larger risk than I think than you're assigning.

I posted a link a bit back that chronicled what Schwartz has done since his run with the Lions. I think he's a much less risky HC and if he can land an OC like DeFillipo it's a win-win for all phases. Vrabel doesn't have experience and LaFleur hasn't done jack. Some of the other offensive names haven't even called a play.

Munchak was an all pro player, a position coach wiz and was totally lost when he was promoted from position coach to HC. I just think people need to place a bit more value on HC experience when selecting a guy. And players HAVE to respect their HC and coaches have to have some experience in dealing with multiple different player personalities. It's not an easy task to manage a diverse personnel.

People were mad but our D has poor personnel and he was early in his career. Look at his resume since then. He's fielded top 10 D's consistently. And he has been on a staff ever since his stint in Detroit. Players like him and he's been with a few organizations. Don't be SO in love with an HC who runs the offense- an HC needs to be a leader to O, D and ST players. And needs some experience to understand diplomacy required to manage so many professional personalities. Youth is great for a "new way of thinking" but HC is a lot different from having the narrow scope of responsibility over a single position.

I think there are personality traits you look for and overall organizational and leadership skills. Sometimes head coaching experience just reveals a person’s flaws, but failure doesn’t mean they learned the right way to coach, only the wrong way. Glad it’s not my decision...

I reckon JRob is considering all of the above.

I back him to make the right choice, and I am certain that he will be interviewing, Vrabel, Wilks and potentially Shwartz, with questions and considerations for the offence, OC, QB coach etc.

I back him to get the right guy/combination of guys for us if he has his pick. My only concern is that the 'right guy' goes elsewhere, or stays put (DeFillipo), and we are left with our 2nd or 3rd choice.

Why? Pederson made Wentz and that offense. Remember how terrible Oakland's offense became when they promoted their QB coach to OC this year?

Some people are great at being an OC, etc, but being a HC is above their ability. As some have said, a HC is more about managing men and organization than designing plays.

Tbf the the Raiders dude Carr and Crabtree both missed time this season and Cooper started dropping wide open passes for no reason. Idk what an OC could do in those situations
