For someone with your knowledge, I'm very surprised at your comments.

Our offense isn't based on the option most of the time. And WHERE was the strong run game you mention? It was non-existent this year as our backup rb had more yards than our starter...who was injured most of the season and was given the bulk of the carries anyway. We also got consistently BEHIND the chains because of our inconsistency.

If we had much better playcalling, you can run just about any scheme. But when your playcalling is vanilla and you just wanna go 3 te's and run people over, we are not gonna beat the best teams doing that. And condensed formations are very good when you have 11 personnel, but we're doing it with 3 TE's and obvious calls.

What coaching by Mularkey got us into the playoffs this year? We were fortunate that the other AFC south teams fell apart and we got the Jags early (before they gelled and late when they didn't need to win). We still laid quite a few eggs. And our coaching by Mularkey and Robiskie got us how many points in the first half of the KC game? That game was won by Mariota, Henry and our offense, our defense, special teams, help from KC, and some luck. I don't give Mularkey credit for getting out of the way.

Yes, Brady is amazing and changed some plays pre-snap and no, Mariota isn't close to his level. But the scheme design is awesome and unlike what most teams run. He really is excellent at attacking the defense in a multitude of ways and keeping them off balance. LeBeau threw the kitchen sink at them and they did a very good job against us.

I could point to a number of plays to illustrate this but if you're a DC, I don't understand how you're not seeing it. They were especially good in the red zone and made it look relatively easy to score on us in a variety of ways. We were TERRIBLE scoring td's this year. Is that all Tom Brady? I'd say no when he flips the ball to the rb in motion and outruns everyone to the pylon.

So how did Mariota do so well last year if he's bad? He had 28 td's last year, threw for just under 3500yds and a qb rating of 95.6. As a rookie he also had a qb rating over 90. So what makes you think he's a bad player?

Let's make this even more interesting. Let's say you're the GM and you decide to cut Mariota, who are you replacing with him who's better with the 25th pick in the draft or in free agency for 5 times the cost (Alex Smith or Kirk Cousins?) and $25-30mil???

What you're not getting is with similar individual numbers...they were FIRST in SCORING offense! FIRST!!! We were FOURTEENTH!!!

    BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

Better scheme, play design, and playcalling.

Go back to last year when Mariota was healthy and you will see us running a lot of option. And our run game wasn’t strong because a) teams loaded up against us because Mariota couldn’t run and struggled throwing and b) Murray was injured. But we WANTED to be a run team to take pressure of Mariota passing the ball.
Oh and Henry sucks at pass pro and clearly doesn’t know the playbook well enough as Mariota had to tell him what to do on neatly every play.

If Mukarkey didn’t do anything to getvus in the playoffs, why are we even bothering to hire a coaching staff? You’re saying our players can just make it to the playoffs by themselves.

Please do. Because I didn’t see anything conceptually unique to the Patriots. They’re simply very good at identifying mismatches like a fast RB on our slow LBs and taking advantage of it.

As I said put Gurley on last years Titans and we’re 1st in offense too. That guy is a superstar.

What is your definition of 'a lot' of option? Teams loaded the box against us the previous year as well and yet we were able to run the ball. And we weren't running a spread option scheme the majority of the time. How do you explain this vs this year when they loaded the box? Same OL, same players for the most part.

So...what is your point? He shouldn't play, he should play, he should be taken out on obvious passing situations, or what? So is Henry not being good at the playbook or pass pro have anything to do with coaching?

Because most of the time we won't have a cup cake schedule and unlike some people here, I'd like to WIN A SUPER BOWL!!! Hard to do with inferior coaching!

If your level of expertise is only good enough to identify putting a fast rb on a slow lb, me diagramming a few plays is not gonna help you. How are you a defensive coordinator and not recognize that the Pats offense is better designed, changeable, and executed! Do you think we run the same concepts as the Patriots under McDaniels? How many other teams threw the ball 50+ times against one of the top defenses in the SB (same D that made Manning look like he didn't know anything the year before)?

If it was as easy as don't let them get a fast rb on our slow LB, you'd think a HOF DC in LeBeau could stop that in a variety of ways.

Nope. What is the BIGGEST difference between how the Rams offense is designed versus Mularkey's?

I don't have exact numbers, but my feeling is that we around somewhere between 10-20 option plays per game when Mariota was healthy. Now I'm talking about the combination of RDOP and RPO. I would guess we ran maybe 5 true RDOP and more RPO.

He should be a backup just like he was until Murray went down. Until he knows his playbook, can reliably pick up blitzes and stops running backwards, it would be insane to let him play full time.

Humor me. I'm really curious to see what you think is so unique about the NE design. I highlighted the two parts that I totally agree with you though. NE are much better at adapting to circumstances and executing, both for the players AND the coaches.

This is where Tom Brady is the deciding factor. If LeBeau tries to take away one thing, he will have to leave something else open. In the NFL it is virtually impossible to dominate another team at every position. And Brady is the best ever to read and exploit this.
