I have a theory on what's been going on with Marcus. I think the regression this year is due to two factors. First, he's probably not been 100% throughout the year and the hammy took a while to get whole again. And that lower leg of his may still need a tweak post season.

But the other more important factor is that I think NFL defenses have finally caught up to him and he's having trouble adjusting. This isn't unusual...we often see it in year 2 or 3 of a QB's career. Years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Titans safety Michael Griffin just after he'd gotten drafted but before he'd played a down in the NFL. A friend of mine had built his new home and he and I got into his truck to get his cable boxes at Comcast (since I knew where the place was).

During the drive, I commented on Vince Young's opening season success. Griff on the other hand was more circumspect. He played on the same University of Texas team with VY so he'd gotten to chance to practice against the guy for a long time. He said "Yeah, but VY does the exact same move every time before he runs with the ball, and he always runs left". At that point I said to myself "Uh oh! If he's knows that, how long will it take defensive coordinators in the NFL to figure this out".

This answer was, not long at all. Season 2 was not like season 1 and everything went downhill from there. Marcus Mariota entered the NFL with a reputation of not throwing picks. His first training camp got through nearly pick free. And the first two seasons also bore that out. But I think the defensive world has scouted him enough to figure him out and it's shown this year. And as I said before, injuries which hampered his mechanics haven't helped either.

No one can say that Mariota doesn't have the competitive guts to survive in the NFL. But the offensive team is going to have to work harder to develop countermeasures for that the defensive coordinators around the league have figured out about him so he can get back to having more TDs than INTs.

He did miss a wide open Davis streaking up the sideline for a TD, but he was unfazed and the very next play he threw a strike to Decker for a TD.

Maybe we should ask Amy if Marcus can keep his job :8:

    Outrageous view.

Davis quit on his route for the intercept. He didnt do anywhere near enough to sell to Peters that the ball could be coming to him. Peters knew it wasnt by the way Davis ran his route, so drifted off him and onto the route Walker was running. That INT is on Davis.

A fellow coworker from Orlando sent me this article. He used to try and razz me about Winston > Mariota. He was a big supporter of Winston as the Bucs are his team but he's getting tired of his act especially after that eating "W" stupidity. He's salty we're on to the next round but said congrats and thought I'd enjoy this considering its from their media.

    Very nice read!

Mariota is a great QB. It is the play calling that I see Mariota struggling with. Look, Mariota is the perfect respectful guy that follows orders. It’s just the OC doesn’t have plays like what Mariota needs. Plus our receivers dropped critical passes. We have plays where our receivers could come back and fight for the catches. Our best Balls out Receiver that plays with heart and will dive, play hurt, and plays hard is our TE. The WR’s need to play balls out football and be aggressive. Henry and Murray for a while there were running like CJ when he went bad. Jogging into a pile and falling. Henry realized he was running soft and he corrected it. FINALLY! We have some weapons for MM8! Best thing is players see the fire from MM8 to stiff arm and get a 1st down. Catch your own pass and dive for the score, or help your RB that has been pounding and lay down a block! It’s contagious! When the WR’s play with the heart of Delanie, MM8 and Henry and fight, it will be hard for teams to defend that.
What I saw this weekend was a fire building. Mariota is building a fire!

He was taking to Griffin so there's 2 options.

He's a defender so if VY is running right, to the defender that's left if facing him.

Or he cant tell right from left.

I've seen him play so both are possible

Nobody should respond to this clown. He deserves zero happiness after Mariota takes down the Pats
