Dude, there aren't 32 studs in the NFL period....think about it. Only about 10-15 true stud QB's, and really only about 3-5 that can carry a team. And two of those Brady, and Rapelessburger are about done.

 

I'm not looking for 32 studs at qb in the NFL, just a better backup than the one we have that can do more than hold the clipboard when Mariota isn't 100%. Furthermore, Marcus needs to be pushed. Every player on this team should feel the pressure of a younger backup trying to take over their position. That's what creates a really good football team! Competition! It works at your job, it works in the NFL!

Besides the 1st pass, mariota had a good game. He doesn't call the plays

 

You know what else makes a good team? A quality coaching staff that works too the strengths of each player to put them in a position to succeed. I'd like them to use a mid to late pick to develop a QB, but it won't mean **** if this staff is still here.

 

This thread is kind of lame, but so are the "but he was hurt during the offseason" and "he hasn't been 100% healthy" posts. He is NEVER 100% healthy.

 

The health is BS. All his problems are mental. This guy is a zombie. Expressionless. Scary actually. He plays really well for a while then goes into some sort of mental funk. No college QB would throw an Int like that, yet he keeps on doing it. Throwing 1-3 yard passes just because the guy is open on 3rd and 10 is rediculous. Slow passes to static receivers that don't even give the guy a chance to make a move are worthless.
At times he can be very good, but too often he's just really bad. You can't have a good offense with this kind of inconsistency. The receivers give up trying to get open because he never goes through progressions. In his defense, we really have no run game. Murray is too slow, and while I love Henry, we don't utilize him properly. We need some quickness there at times for screens, etc. Teams have no fear of M8 and stack the box hoping he will throw. They know eventually (or sooner) what will happen. We are very easy to defend right now.

 

Sounds like Goff last year and look what getting him an innovative head coach did for his development. Mularkeys offensive scheme is the reason why I think Mariota has had his inconsistencies. The max protection, heavy set formations, struggling run game, ridiculously basic route concepts doesn't do him any favors.

 

yeah great point, thats why receivers keep running the wrong routes, and we keep sending 2 receivers down the field vs a 6 man zone. Mariota makes some bad decisions, but all of them are correctable. He’s having the same exact season as Derek Carr but for some reason Derek Carr gets the excuse for being hurt messing up his mechanics and timing, while Mariota just has to “suck it up” I cant wait til we go back to the 3-13 days.
