And if the defense could force punts or create a turnover instead giving up points we'd win more games. How many FGs did San Fran score? 5? One more punt. That's all it would have taken. Force Blaine Gabbert into a mistake, which is what he does, and that game is different.

10 picks on the year, five of which are from one player over the course of two games.

    This defense is not good.

Defense would be a whole lot better if they could get an interception sometime this century

    Total agreement with this thread.
Not sure it's personnel entirely vs. scheme but this defense isn't good.
From this issues last year and before, I certainly didn't think cyp, sly, and Ryan were the entire fix.

I'll give a little pass yesterday because Sims and Ryan were out, but Gurley was the top WR and he absolutely put the beat down on this Tennessee D yesterday.

Gurley does that to everyones d, thats why he is an mvp candidate. If our o could score from the 1 inch line it wouldnt matter

Guys the numbers don't lie.....this defense has actually played its ass off this yr.

This defense has been on the field for the 5th most plays of any other team and yet we have the 7th best 3rd down %. So if you are actually doing a decent job on 3rd down how come so many plays are run on your defense....the answer is that our offense has run the 4th fewest plays in the league and a big factor in that is that our offense is 9th worst in 3rd down conversions.

Only the Vikings defense has given up fewer 20+ yd plays from scrimmage. I think that is a key stat in what our defense is about. Don't give up the long play.

Their is no doubt that the offense has been the issue this yr. 3rd worst QB rating and only 15th in rushing yds. While last yr we had the 12th best QB rating and 3rd best run game.

The defense has improved...last yr we gave up 56 pass plays of 20+yds while this yr we have only given up 36.

Meanwhile on offense last yr we had 53 pass plays of 20+ yds and have regressed to only 38 this yr.

It will be interesting to see what Robinson thinks of these numbers and what moves he makes to get the offense back on track. The defense still needs that playmaking edge rusher but otherwise we are actually pretty good on that side of the ball.

And we held Sf to 24 and they put almost double on the Jags so called #1 defense. Jags barely beat the Fins and chargers.... they got gifted those 2 games

    Seattle 1 - 14 for 47 yards, 2 cth for 7 yards.
    IND (granted 46-9 game) 19 for 40, 5cth for 56, 1 TD
    Minn 15 for 37, 3cth for 19, 1 TD

Tennessee- season high 276 total yards and 2 TD. Only team to allow 100 rec, 10 catches (previous season high-6) and only 6th allowing 100 rushing (supposedly our D strong point) with his 3rd highest amount.

Gurley doesn't do this to everyone and had his absolute best game against Tennessee. Not about to defend this d on really anything. They play well in some matchups (teams that focus on running/struggle passing) but get crushed by good offenses. It's always only a matter of time until some team exposes them for being only average.

I also think Mularkey plays to the advantage of opponents not ever having to put their foot on a gas pedal. Once he gets a FG lead, he goes super conservative to ensure the lead isn't expanded.
