I m pretty sure those options are consistent of handing ball to either Murray or Henry.

I don't think that's accurate. What Mularkey said was this:

“I’d like to just … see if we can get him maybe to help us get out of more situations that he knows are going to be bad plays based on defenses outflanking us, blitzes,” Mularkey said. “(We’re) putting more on his plate that he can hopefully get us to the right play. Not a lot, but just enough (to) maybe save us a couple snaps.

“It’s not that much more. We spent a lot of time Mondays and Tuesdays making sure we don’t have to have a lot of calls. That’s the thing. If we’re doing our homework and we’re putting in the game plan the way our coaches have, we shouldn’t have to get out of a lot of plays. We’re talking about a couple, at the most. And that may not even be in one game.

So he is not REALLY encouraging Marcus to audible out of plays. He is saying that he can; but doesn't expect him to do it much at all. The way it comes across to me, he wants people to know he trusts Marcus; but does not want him changing his plays. I could be very wrong. However, you do not see Marcus changing many play calls from run to pass. I believe he has very limited plays he can audible to that Mularkey has given him. Which is what Mularkey said about year 2.... I do not see him allowing us to run into so many loaded boxes if he had, "the freedom to check out of any plays he wants." As Mularkey said, "It may be two plays, & that may not even be in one game." So Mularkey is not wanting his play calling changed IMO....

Here is the link to what Mularkey actually said in the Press Conference:

God that is sad. We really are handcuffing our franchise QB and restricting his development. Starting to feel numb towards this team already this year.

How can you run a play as a coach, see that its not going to work but play it out anyway. This quote comes to mind:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Sounds like he is saying they want & prepare Mariota to get them out of bad plays. But the coaches & assistants are so good with their game prep, they rarely, basically never, call a bad play.

Or they are just trying to teach him lessons like "ok, I know you just got sacked but this is why one would opt out of that bad play." They didn't and don't want to change the play, just teach him why or what can happen if you don't.

I think a QB told not to audible out of a bad play should call a timeout when he sees they're in a bad play. After coaches understand he recognizes bad plays, they'll either allow him to audible or get used to not having time outs when they need them.

I think it's stupid to ever tell the QB you can't audible out. You either succeed as QB (including the audibles) or you get benched/replaced when possible.

Still being a newbie here, I've been reading back this entire thread, so there will be some grades y'all get from my opinion on these posts.

I had to laugh with MariGOATa, and VondyP's last posts. Some of that guy's s "observations", (to put it nicely), just had me shaking.my head.

Mariota could be one of the top QB's, if our Coaching staff had half a brain. He shown the last 3 games how tough he is, playing the two previous games hurt, and having to just stand in the pocket. He did the job well, considering the coaching, and today showed he's back with that 28 yard run, and the one where Burfect was ejected. (Note he didn't get suspended either)..

Develop a game plan like Wilson has in Seattle..Wilson rolling out, moving the pocket, and using his legs as another weapon. You all saw he still has elite speed as he blew through that hole on the long run. Mularky wants him to be a statue, just stand there and get hit.

Someone said something after the Raider game, put Carr on the Titans, and Marcus on the Raiders that game and we win..Then mentioned that Wilson is better than Mariota cause he has a ring.

Put Marcus on those Seattle teams, and they win both Super Bowls, put Wilson with Mularky and our team the past 3 years, we don't fare any better than we did.

Marcus got his broken leg being sacked, not by running the ball..I wish we had a good coach..I heard last night we are trying to talk to Gruden and Harbaugh to come to Tennessee.Doubt either would, but if we could get Gruden, we will be major contenders every year, plus,.more good players would come because of him.

Hell right now, I'd be happy with a high school coach than Mularky..
