theyll both be on the wrong side of 30 but drop off may be minimal, 30 and 32 isnt that old

Id expect both to be offered 2-year deals, maybe 3 for Morgan cause hes only 30 then and thats what JR gives out

Unfortunately, not all of them are coming back and some that will won't get big money contracts so we don't need an extra $100mil sitting in the bank.

Plus, if we had spent money in 2016 instead of holding onto it, we would have gotten 3 years of service out of those players before needing to make cap adjustments. And you know the cap will keep going up for another few seasons as well!

Are we seriously gonna save $30-70mil in cap space for 4 years??? (2015-2018). Math wise it makes more sense to sign free agents to 5 year contracts and get four years of use out of them and then cut them to free up cap over leaving it in Amy's pocket!

According to overthecap.com, we still have $48+mil in cap space. Not good!

Im a big fan of how JR gives out contracts, always front loaded and short term

that way we arent suffering when a player falls off in a few years

Yeah and Walker just got his heir drafted and I'm sure they think Dodd can replace Morgan or Rak in the future.

Of the players on that list, Lewan may be the only one (besides Mariota of course) to get a raise (beyond just the market in general going up).

I agree with you on JRob's draft strategy but the weakness is fewer players and if you don't spend in free agency, we are behind the 8 ball.

I guess we need to hope some decent vets shake loose.

It really depends on who we draft, sign in free agency, the health of those players, and production.

If Rak and or Morgan's production falls off, they aren't getting a raise from us. We may extend them (without increasing our cap and may actually lower it) but short term. In the context of this discussion, its highly unlikely all of the players listed will have career years in 2018 and 2019 and demand to get top dollar. If Rak has 15 sacks, we may still not bring him back at that age and let him walk. Guys not coming back can be due to decline or a career year where paying them a gigantic contract is probably not worth it. We wouldn't pay him Von Miller money (size and length of contract) at that age.

As I said, only guy I really see getting a big raise from your list is Lewan due to his likely high level of play AND being in his prime! Likely a few players on your list are not resigned, retire, come back at roughly the same price or more likely, stick on with a pay cut.

well 2017 and 18 have to play out but by the looks of things these guys arent slowing down any time soon, even Walker at 32 right now is playing his best football

I hope we're able to have them all come back, theyre all core pieces IMO

As you know, the NFL is not an old man's game. I like all of those players and hope they would all stay healthy and get better every year. But unfortunately, that doesn't happen.

Time will tell the story as health and or production diminish.
