I believe we simply should take the best pass rusher available at 5 unless we trade back then take a our receiver at 18. Ross, Williams or Davis will probably be there at 18. Our pass rush disappeared at crucial moments in 2016. Adding another d line pass rusher would help us become more of what we want. In this years draft we could get a starting corner in round three.

I wouldn't hate using 18 on a WR, although I rather we trade down. We just need to make sure we use 5 and get a playmaker in the secondary. The only guy we have close to resembling that on fesne is Jurrell Casey and that's it.

I disagree that Casey is it. I think when healthy Orakpo and Morgan make a pretty good pass rush.
The issue on D is mostly coverage (so I agree here). A little bit more coverage allows a little bit more time to get after the QB.

Last year the pass rush was just inconsistent game in and game out. 40 total sacks, 31 in the wins (3.5 per game) vs. 9 in losses (1.25 per game). That includes 0 against Minnesota (freaking Shaun Hill), 0 against Matt Barkley and CHI, and averaged 2 per game against our division.
But we had 5 against A-A-ron Rod-gers, 4 against Stafford, and 6 against both Miami and Cle.

Must get more against Andrew Luck specifically. To beat the Colts, you have to get after Luck. That said, if he doesn't have wide open WR or TE as soon as he calls hike, maybe the pass rush can get there.

I think they are good too, but I don't think Morgan or Orakpo at this point in his career can be considered actual playmakers. I'm talking about a guy that can routinely make pro-bowl/all-pro consideration. Somebody that is the best player at their position, or not far from it. We don't have this on defense, and we could use one and with holes at secondary and 3 high-level secondary guys in the draft...it's almost like a perfect match for us.

As for our pass rush, I'm not too concerned about it. We just added Sly who is a huge upgrade, and to be quite frank, our pass rush did well. I think people underestimate it too much like our offense, especially not taking into account how much extra they have to work because of our shoddy secondary. Sure it can be inconsistent at times, but like you mentioned, to me it's more of a coverage/scheming problem than a talent problem. We could still use some depth, and I wouldn't hate if we took Allen at 5 or Barnett at 18 because I like them, but I don't think that fixes our problem and would greatly prefer us focus on improving coverage like you said.

If we can do that, barring injuries I don't see anyway we don't make the playoffs, and I think we probably get to a Super Bowl.

Trade back to 12 and get a second round pick then trade the 18 pick for Sherman if possible (I know he comes with baggage but it will be good for our secondary to have a aggressive player like him). Get a WR with the 12 and we will still have a 2nd and 2 thirds left with our biggest needs addressed. Dont think the Sherman trade will happen but who knows the Seahawks seem like they are actually crazy enough to trade him.

18 is waaaay too much for him in my opinion. He's a 29 year old zone corner. We'd be much better off just drafting a corner at 18.

I'm not liking the value too much at 18 though. Maybe if somebody drops, but I have a feeling we are going to have to settle, and at that point I rather we trade down from there and pick up a 2nd rounder from CLE or NO, or pick higher and get some future capital.

Lot of good people get drafted at 18. Why would you prefer later picks than 18 if you don't like the value at 18?

Last few years number 18 overall picks.

    2016- Ryan Kelly (starter)
    2015- Marcus Peters (starter)
    2014- Calvin Pryor (starter)
    2013- Eric Reid (starter)
    2012- Melvin Ingram (starter)
    2011- Corey Liuget (starter)
    2010- Maurkice Pouncey (starter)
    2009- Robert Ayers (starter)
    2008- Joe Flacco (starter)

To answer the OP's question, I say Malik Hooker and all answers that aren't Malik Hooker are wrong!

    I jest a little.

While I am seriously 100% all-in for Malik Hooker, I'd be happy with any of the following players at #5 (in order of preference).

    1. Malik Hooker - He's a generational talent. So physically gifted as a player! In a few years I believe he'll be considered the best player to come out of this draft (possibly even above Garrett, IMHO). I watch an unhealthy amount of college (and pro) football. In the OSU games I watched, he was ALWAYS around the football. He has amazing range! Not to mention, he fills a major need for us. Safety play for the Titans was atrocious last year! Far worse than our CB play if you ask me. Too many times last year, we got beat because our FS was either out of place and/or didn't have the range nor ability to recover. I believe many of those plays wouldn't have been an issue with Hooker back there. In our scheme, we desperately need a safety with great range and instincts and Hooker has both!

    - Picks 2 and 3 are almost interchangeable for me -

    2. O.J. Howard - I agree with Titans2004 on this, I believe Howard is a safe pick with freakish ability that fills a need. In addition, I think he is a matchup nightmare that will give Mariota much needed help in the passing attack.

    3. Jamal Adams - With the signing of Cyprien, SS is no longer a "need" (well less of one anyway); without that signing, Adams would be up there with Hooker for me. Safety play was atrocious for us last season and SS was a major issue. However, even with the signing of Crypien, Adams is still too good a talent to pass up IMHO. Jamal's the type of talent that doesn't come around often; he's a class act and a leader both on the field and in the locker room -- for me, this adds considerably more value to a player than the skillset alone.

    4. Reuben Foster - I'm hesitant due to the character concerns stemming from his NFL Combine dismissal. If he checks out off the field and the rumors about his low football IQ are bogus, he might be number 2 on this list for me. The guy is a heat-seeking missile! I also have a hard time believing the low football IQ BS because everything I've seen on film, says otherwise!

    5. Jonathan Allen - The questions about his arthritic shoulders have me a little concerned. If not for that, he'd be a no-brainer, need or not!

    6. Marshon Lattimore - If it wasn't for the hammies, I'd be sold on him. The guy is a ballhawk with tremendous closing/makeup speed. He's extremely talented, but let's face it, hammy concerns are not something to be taken lightly. They're typically a lingering issue that doesn't ever completely go away and they only get worse with age. I'm worried that if we draft him, we may be continuously talking about how good he'll be when he gets on the field with him rarely being able to actually stay on the field for an entire season. Hopefully, I'm wrong as he seems like a really good kid and I wish him well.

    7. Solomon Thomas - I'm just not high on him at all for our team. For a team other than the Titans perhaps, just not us. Every mock draft under the sun seems to have him gone by 5, so I highly doubt he'll be there at pick #5. However, as good as he is, even if he is there, I still think the players above would be a better fit for this team, or we'd be better off trading out of the pick if someone else wanted to move up to get him.

    * I feel pick #5 is too high for any of the remaining players on the OP's list, so if they are an option, I'd really prefer we trade down a few, maybe pick up a 2nd in the process and then grab one of them...or hope they fall to pick #18.

Perhaps not, but doesn't mean he can't still be number 1 on my list and IMHO, the biggest difference maker this team needs.
