My daughter is a cheerleader, so Im at most of the middle school games, the risk for head trauma is 100% there already, there are full grown men lining up for some of these teams. One of the WR's/LB's is already bigger than the officials. Theres a 5'5" 180lb RB on one team...

Dont be mistaken, the risk exists at all levels... In fact, our middle school league outlaws kick returns to lessen injuries.....Which is why Im putting this off for as long as I can with my son.

I do want him having some experience before high school tho.

in my city, in the west side league, they start tackle in 2nd or 3rd grade. I coached in that league in 2006. One season, drove me nuts.

We have a lot of flag football leagues around here. We went that route with our son. He went to contact football around age 12.

Maybe it's just our team here. Not a lot of big kids, some fat ones, but not really built. Plus the speed and technique isn't really there. Either way, it still a spectator sport around my house unless my son makes a real 180 about the game.

I agree, gotta lose the PED users somehow, they make it dangerous for everyone

but it is entirely possible to reach JJ Watt size without doping...

I got one in HS....diving for a catch...don't remember anything else..."woke up" on the sidelines with blood every where from my busted lip and busted nose. My teammates said I took a knee to the facemask area...

    I've seen one bad concussion

At the time I didn't really know what a concussion was, a younger wr on varsity made this dope ass catch between two defenders, for a td, right as time expires in the half. I notice him looking really confused I'm like sup dawg great catch he bursts into tears like "eston what the **** is happening why am I here what is this what the ****" I was like uuuuhhhhhhhhhhh let's go see the trainer man

On film you see both guys wrap him up and drive him on the ground head first, not maliciously or anything just the way it happened

Wasn't allowed to play till the next year

Ive only witnessed 2 for sure concussions up close to teammates when I was playing. One laid there motionless for 22 minutes before being taken away in an ambulance (he's fine today). The other was at practice and seemed ok til he started shivering and then vomiting for no apparent reason, then we traced it back to a hit earlier that day.

But Ive had my bones rocked on runs before and never gotten a concussion, so its scary when you get to thinking about it.

Considering the effects, curious why boxing hasn't had any lawsuits or anything brought up. They get concussions then stand right back up and continue fighting.
