    question..

Why is Carr's return timeline 6-8 weeks but Mariota's is 4-5 months?

I thought they were the same injury? even if there is some difference, enough to add on 2-3 months for Mariota?

My guess is because they happened in different areas of the fibula? Mariota's was just above his ankle, while Carr's was higher up.

Might be a PR thing... Raiders going postseason? Might be trying to put a positive spin for the fans.

@Riverman can answer better, but if that is the case, I would guess the closer to the foot the smaller the bone, the worse the break and complicated by a joint. Maybe more screws and plates. The fact they took him to Charlotte tells me it is a serious problem. A simple break could have been done here. Also brings on the question about his agility. Will he ever be 100% again?

I will also have questions about not only his agility, but also his mobility and speed. It may be a while before we hear about expected outcomes and we probably won't know for sure until he is on the field again.

This could be very complicated. We probably won't know before the draft if he is going to be as good as new. Makes our options interesting. I am sure Tanney will move if no chance to play, so will we keep Cassel just in case?

is the tendon part true? that concerns me more than the break. you can recover fine from a break. supposedly darren sproles had this same surgery, but i'unno

Difference being Mariota injured his syndesmosis (ligaments holding tibia and fibula together), and Carr most likely did not. The picture below should hopefully show what I'm talking about since you can't see torn ligaments on XR. The XR below shows the surgery Mariota will most likley be getting. The long screw going all the way across to the tibia is the one holding the syndesmosis in place. Carr will most likely not get that.

Also, just as some FYI. Robert Anderson is considered top 2 or 3 in the country when it comes to foot and ankle, so Mariota is in good hands. He's the James Andrews for anything foot and ankle related, all the athletes go to him. Carr underwent surgery in Los Angeles, and if I had to guess it was by Neal ElAttrache. He'll most likely be the go to guy for athletes once Andrews retires.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out the large number of Camero's I saw while I was there.
