Xbox One S is basically the "slim" version of the Xbox One. Has a redesigned controller.

The Xbox One Scorpio, which is a 2017 release, is the 4K console. No price point with the announcement, which is a little worrisome.

Xbox will essentially have three stand alone consoles at once when 2017 rolls around.

    not really

    smart on their part actually

they gauge customer interest/excitement, then they come up with a price point that is profitable but not astronomically higher than customer expectations.

    ie $600 PS3.

it probably won't be higher than ~ $500

I'd be surprised to see the "most powerful console ever" be profitable right off the bat. Everyone knows consoles lose money their first year or two. If the upgrades are that major then there will be no profit had on the hardware unless it's priced at a crazy amount.

That's one of the reasons I'm not too high on this partial upgrade mid generation that seems to be happening. Scorpio and PS4K(rumored) will not be full upgrades, but 4K gaming will cost out the ass.

I have to say, I'd be kind of pissed if I bought the XboxOne and a new system will be out next year.

Sounds like PS4 version will be out in 2018. Still seems like that is way too soon... basically they might as well have skipped the Ps4 and the XBoxOne and just released the next consoles.

I really want to do a huge upgrade and basically set up a true game room including the VR stuff. But I think I'm gonna wait a year or two and see how all this new stuff shakes out.

    I hate this garbage.

It's almost as if the games industry looked back to mid-90s Sega and thought they were geniuses for all of the add-ons (Sega CD, 32X). I mean, I know Nintendo gets away with it with handhelds, but those are handhelds (and even then it's going to come back to haunt them; even with the 3DS initial sales were painfully slow partially due to everyone expecting an upgraded version around the corner).

It's going to be an interesting time when this generation is done.

Steam was a gamechanger. Microsoft is slowly transitioning to a format that will be similar, IMO. This whole cross-platform between Xbox One and Windows 10 is a precursor. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Xbox One Scorpio as the last Xbox "console."

Playstation has hinted that there may not be a PS5.

A lot is up in the air and I'm not all that thrilled with where we're potentially headed.

gaming in general this gen has been a joke, remasters up the ass is just pure laziness, releasing bits and pieces of a game for over a year, day 1 patches for broken games.. etc

very few games have held my interest this gen..

I refuse to get VR.. I'm done with PC gaming as my patience for that has vanished over the years.. so.. consoles are all I'm fooling with, and they are in weak shape right now.. been pretty disappointing

Ps4k is confirmed, not rumoured. As the Sony guy explained, it's for people who have a 4k tv and not much content.

Nothing else changed regarding games. Both Sony and MS will have a policy that games must be playable on both console versions so no one is missing out.

Except you are missing out on better frame rate and graphics.
